I know there are 5 different terrain types - what I can't figure out is how they affect population growth, army movement, etc.

Could someone please enlighten me? If it's in the manual somewhere, just reference a page # - I'll look it up. So far, I haven't been able to find it in the manual.

TIA

I don't think they affect growth

but they 5 types are:

mountains
plains
Forest
Desert
Swamp

cavalry have huge penalties when fighting in mountains and attacking into forest

cannons have halved fire rate in swamps

And defender receive bonus in mountains

Thats what I can remember at the moment, I hope it helps! :)

I believe they also affect movement through a province.

That is correct. Troop movement in forests and deserts are 25% slower, marshes 50% and mountains 75% slower - all compared to plains.

This can also be changed in 'Terrain types.csv' in the Map folder:
Number;Type;Movment
0;Plains;1.0
1;Forest;1.25
2;Mountain;1.75
3;Desert;1.25
4;Marsh;1.5
5;Ocean;1.0
6;River;1.0
7;Border;0.5
8;Terra incognito;0
9;Unknown;0

In addition there is a possibility to set movement ratings for each province...

It's the only chance that Prussia has against Poland.

I invaded Poland with 4000 cavalrists and 20000 infantrists.
So it's not impossible.
Got Warsaw and Gniezno. Split them in half:D

I'm now in my 2nd war against Poland in 1444. I've crushed their armies twice (once for each war) so now I'm just picking off provinces at my leisure. The problem is I'm fighting Bohemia also, whose army I haven't been able to eliminate yet, so I'll take out Poland, then Bohemia. After this war, I'll own all of Poland's provinces north of Krakow. :)
