i have a problem with eu4, starting at 1600-1650 my fps starts drooping hard sometimes, i always play on 5 speed where have like 20-28 fps it runs smoothly most of the time but starting at 1600-1650 it starts droopin really hard, most of the time to 8-11 turning down the speed doesnt help either i asked my friends who have a lot of knowledge about PC specs etc, they never played ever but they said to me that my graphic card processor are actually good but that my ram is pretty outdated and bad, is that maybe a reason why i have fps drops?

My specs:
Intel Core i5 4570 @ 3.20GHz
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

and the hard drive where i run eu4 from:
931GB ATA ST1000DM003-1CH1 SCSI Disk Device (SATA)

are there any flaws in my specs?what do i need to upgrade? or is it something else?

Would be nice if you could help me!

Trolololo I’ve recently discovered that this game is very much playable on the Asus Zenbook UX305, BUT ONLY with the mod Fast Universalis! Many thanks to the maker :).

definatly CPU. although an I5 3,4 GHZ is more then enough for this game.

the problem of lategame slow downs HOI4 style is likely caused if Ming gets involved in a war versus Colonizer or something like that.

Alson restarting client every couple of hours is also not bad idea.

And I heard that the mod fast universalis does help lategame if speed starts to drop overall, even at speed 5.

Nothing wrong with your specs. I've got only GeForce 750 ti and half your ram.
The only moment it starts lagging for me it's fighting wars against big colonizers. Although this start happening in the latest two patches. Maybe because they buffed the AI?

I have a rather old laptop used only for paradox LAN games.
Did the migration to win10. Saw the horrible performance and downgraded back to win7.
Huge difference.

Though I think you should first look into upgrading your CPU and RAM as others adviced, I think you should also consider investing in a SSD.

It might not be the best solution for getting better FPS, it will make starting up and espevially autosaves on ironman go more smoothly. I found it a very good investment for EU4 in my laptop.

IMHO, your CPU could need a renewal. 3.2GHz base is quiet dusty...

*EDIT* 660MHz RAM is not the fastest out there, too ^^

the problem he describes is caused ingame, not by his hardware.

SSD only gives less loading time at launch of game and autosave speed.

more RAM and better CPU gives better global real-time speed of the different speed levels.

using win dows 7 instead of windows 10 also gives huge sglobal speed increase.

Ingame lategame slow downs are likely caused by colonizers going to war with huge nations like Ming.

The more unit stacks on map that need computing, the more slowdown.

and colonizers have shitton of stacks, and Ming can have huge stack amount too.

Imagine a full size Russia engaging Ming with help of a colonizer with 5+ CN.

OMG slowpoke game speed overall then.

this is just my two cents, from observation lategame.

try using console as Ming, and declare war on all colonizers and all big nations. The more wars, the slower your client will go on overall speed.

If the entire world is at war, and client has to compute 1000+ stacks so to speak, it slows down HOI 4 style.

Yes, thats true, and hasn't really been touched upon in this thread except by you: the game will always be slower as the centuries pass. And I don't think any amount of hardware can completely cancel out the game progressing slower.

Op would be best of to invest in better CPU and RAM for a smoother game, yes.
Though I have no personal experience in upgrading on these matters, my laptop was prerty high end when I first bought it.
I only upgraded it by investing in an SSD. Which I would recommend to any computer user (boot into windows used to take 30 seconds, now 2-3).

Whenever I start a new campaign, I'll require a few restarts. To get correct rivals, to find a nice country to play, and because I generally do something stupid and muck up. In the past I have literally spent whole evenings looking at the loading screen just to get a campaign started. An SSD might give small improvements compared to CPU and RAM, though for me it has been a huge boon and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Though it all depends on how deep Duschns wallet is really :)

Come to think, this is definitely the most expensive game I played. I used to play EU3 on a very old crappy laptop, which was a nightmare. Got fed up with it and bought this laptop just to play EU4. And I would say it was worth every penny!

EDIT: I appear to suck at quoting :)
