Why don't I have my third research slot unlocked here?
I'd like to know before wasting a year on factories to get 40 base IC.

the first number (0 for you currently) is unused IC, 2nd number (41) is total IC and then 3rd number is base IC which has to be 40 in oder to get 3rd tech slot.
Quite impressive to get Bulgaria that high.

Dang, next year on factories then. Not that I have the manpower to build more units anyway  .
Zarky, first 3 years (36-39) was focused on factories. I think I've built 7 or 8, then annexed Greece (39) and Turkey (42)

A couple more questions from this game:

- Is there a way to tell where land units can attack oversea without transport?
I've delayed my attack vs Turkey to 1942 to build transports and then realized I can just swim over the Sea of Marmara. And they did the same thing on the Dardanelles and the Cyclades.

- With very low manpower the army should be obviously focused on quality over quantity. Are brigades a good way to improve the army? In the wiki brigades are heavily criticized, but what about regional/minor powers with low manpower?
An armored car brigade takes 2 mp, a militia division 5 mp and an infantry division 10 mp. I've brigaded over half of my divisions vs Greece with armored cars and upgraded them vs Turkey. I'm not a math person, so I'd like to know if they are a good investment or just a waste of resources.

Yes there is..........

When you select a province, all links that exist to other adjacent provinces are listed in the highlighted area. Some may be direct land links while other may be sea links which can be crossed by armies if there are no hostile fleets present. So whenever in doubt just check these details of the particular province.

Hope I answered part of your question.

I think brigades are good, if you put 10 mp to brigades you have lot more soft attack, hard attack and defensiveness than you would gain from single division, some brigades that increase defensiveness and lower softness can also cut your losses in combat.

Be aware that BWA (Battle Winning Ability) is not a simple function of Soft attack... it is a function of total Soft Attack multiplied by total Organization. Brigades add SA, but little or nothing to ORG, while an additional Division does increase both your total SA and total ORG... so a straight comparison in terms of added Soft Attack is quite misleading.

Hard Attack is worth rather little. A 1939 Infantry unit (HA 2, SA 12) does much more damage to an enemy Armor unit with its Soft Attack than it does with its Hard attack.

Extra Defensiveness (beyond that amount inherent to the unit) is practically worthless. Except for dog-piling situations (aka MTE), it won't even be used in combat unless you are already losing the battle badly... in which case it will only prolong the (losing) combat by a few hours, if even that much.

In games vs the AI, reduced Softness is worth little to Soft units... it is much more valuable to units that are already fairly Hard. An Infantry Division (base 100% Soft) only sees its casualties reduced by 5% (vs Soft Attack) when equipped with Armored Cars (-5% Softness). That same Softness reduction (-5%) when applied to an Armored Division (base 30% Soft) would reduce its casualties (vs Soft Attack) by 17% instead.
