I pre-ordered from GG back in July. I was wondering what happens: do I use the serial key GG will give me on the 13th to unlock the demo? or do I have to re-download the whole game again from GG?

As I understand it you will be given a Steam key for the game - could be wrong there, just thought it runs through Steam now - Steam workshop, achievements etc.

I assume they gave you a steam key, you will have to go to the steam client, and click on the bottom left corner button "add a game" then on "activate a product on steam", and then follow the instructions to enter your serial to unlock the game; then you will download the game through the steam client, in fact from that moment on you can completely forget about GG.

Demo? The demo has NOTHING to do with your pre-order. Anyone can download it - From Steam.

You won't be able to download anything related to EU4 on GG. It is Steam only - Buying it from GG just gets you a steam key for the game. (And a free copy of CK2 and the Converter DLC on GG)

Cheers guys, thanks for the speedy responses. I think know what to do now. Steam is something I'm still trying to get used to. I suppose it's easier to organise multiplayer using a steam friends list/EUIV playing community, right? I have actually never played a multiplayer match for any Paradox game I own so I really want to give it a go.

Yes - Steam chat does make it easy to get multiplayer going. Just make sure that if you have a few gamers in the house they each have their favorite Steam games on their own accounts.

Steam will be great for multiplayer & modding- with steamworks you'll be able to right click your friends whom are playing in open matches and click "join" right from steam.

With the workshop your mods will auto update when the mod devs update them & you will be able to see what mods your contacts are using etc etc. Will be a good move for the franchise
