I've been reading up on Victoria. Frankly it looks like it may have the ability to ecplise my all-time favorite strategy game (CIV3). However I've thought of a hypothetical scernario(sp) in Vic. What if I jack up the reforms to thier highest level. Of course my banking will go broke in a week, but from the influx of immigrants(sp) and my workforce increasing expotentially won't I be able to compensate in about a couple of months?

Thanx in advance,

TBB

(P.S. All the screenshots of most major websites seem to be the same, can anyone provide a link to some NEW screenshots? Thanx)

Ah...I see some are already working on exploits to be! :D

Good question though... But I do think they have solved most of these issues. After all...the people of these boards are quite shrewed...and have constantly been revealing loop holes in Paradoxs´previous games.

But of course...there will always be some window open for exploiters!

I'm not trying to make any exploits... yet :) But I thought of this as I read that a reformed nation has a better chance for immigration, which means more POPs to work in factories, be soldiers, officers etc. I wanted to get this out the open so that people would be aware of it. I mean if you call it exploit sure but, hey its better than flat out cheating.

I would say that this exploit wont work, because for one thing, more people doesn't necessarily mean a better workforce, it means more bellies to feed. If you have all your reforms jacked up, but don't pay for them, your people become more militant and conscious, and then begin revolting. If so many people immigrate, then imagine having even more revolts because of the lack of food. Not to mention how we saw in some screenshots and the video how certain political parties (conservatives, for instance) espouse economic doctrines that make it impossible to lower your social reforms, thus leading to an inevitable coup d'etat.

Just my two cents :)

peace,

Oh good, I'm glad that there was a NATURAL solution to this. Well I'll just have to think of another balancing problem for you geniuses! :D

Yeah, if you spend all your money on reforms then you'll have none left to build factories and RGOs. I don't know if there's a reform to give welfare to the unemployed, but if there is you'd get a big influx of people who would just sit on the dole and drain your money. Or they might thing, no jobs = no point moving there.

And the wealthier classes don't want any of the reforms, because they would ultimately be paying for them without receiving any of the benefits.

Early on in the game, because the laborers and others have no consciousness, they wouldn't care whether there are reforms or not. So i don't think you would see really happy people or a lot of immigration. They didn't think about those things back then.

Early on, the common people can't vote.
The aristocrats, officers and capitalists are in power, they don't want any such reforms, and if you go too fast, they elect a strong anti-reform government that limits your choices.
Look at the politics screenies in some AAR's - it looks like that you will have to take into account what your POP's want.

....I think that revolution would be a deterrent to imigration.
