I'm on 1.6.2, and am trying for "Battlecry" as Xibei San Ma. Its mid-1946. I am not in any factions [yet]. I have finished taking out Nationalist China, took out all the other warlords along the way, and limited Japan's incursion into China. China did not form the UF, and joined the Allies when Japan attacked the Allies, so I couldn't declare war on China without having to fight the Allies [including the USA], too. I massed a huge army and prepared for my clash with the Japanese Titan. When it was time, I justified [only 15 days] and set up a number of airborne and amphibious invasions so I would be able to breech the Japanese Home Islands before they recalled their army, and before they spammed out more units with the 3.5 million manpower they still seemed to have in reserve.
Initially, all was going well. I was tearing through the Japanese, as I had some 400 divisions, everyone was trained and equipped, and I had surprise on my side. Japan was still deep into the Soviet Union. My marines got to invade immediately even though I only had some 70-80 subs [all IIIs and IVs] to ensure naval superiority in the sea zones. I took Taiwan easily, almost took Okinawa [distracted, so I forgot to keep an eye on that paradrop and am now almost completing a port to supply those poor, trusting sods], but I've taken Kyushu, the southwestern third of Honshu, and also all of Kagoshima [that fourth island just south of Honshu (the main one)]. But Japan called in Germany and Italy, so I am also at war with them, but they are not in the same faction as Japan.
So, here's the question - as Japan is the only major in their faction, they should collapse when I capitulate them. They can't go running off to Germany or Italy, and get propped up on the continent with all their leftovers, just like the remains of the Nationalists [some 70-90 divisions] all scuttled off somewhere into exile. If I defeat Japan, will that be it? Will that settle the matter of the war? Or am I now stuck fighting the Axis which only just capitulated the Soviet Union? I have plenty of copies of my saves, so I can go back a bit to be better prepared to face Germany [they railed to the NW frontier and began taking states a while ago]. The thing is, if they will just "go away" once Japan is goine, I'd prefer that. I can't join the Allies or I will have to give back territory to the Nationalists. All I can do at the moment is hope that the few Allied forces will make an effort to counter Germany. I don't have much of an air force, and I don't have any AT [just too much else to research].
