I''m playing with Mother Russia, and things are going quite well. I got the luck of having a random conquistador early, and I explored up to the Pacific, and I'm halfway to the Pacific with colonies. Lithuanians had the misfortune of DOWing me a couple of time, thus resulting them to be down to a couple of provinces. As Poland made a couple of DOW to Austria, I have now actually a border with them (Austria). It's in 1570, my revenue are 70 (I'm the third nation of the world. Not bad) but I'm getting outeched. I'm a 7 land, while France, Austria are at 11 land. What should I do ? I heard a couple of time that there is a neighbouring bonus (but I'm quite sure that having Austria for neighbours is going toi raise a lot of problems...)

you only get the neighbour bonus for countries that are in the same techgroup as you, and for Russia that's Orthodox so you only get neigbourbonus from the Ottomans and the Poles (after they annexed Lithuania)

Don't worry about outteching cause you've got huge manpowerpool, and quantity is your quality.

You are not *that* far behind. Because not all land levels are equally expensive.
land lvl 1-5 are quite expensive, after that it gets a lot cheaper, then getting more expensive again by the time you reach lvl 11.
With some extra attention (ie money) on land research you should be able to cross the gap to 11 quite fast.

Don't worry pal, I am playing AGCEEP Russia, and I am at 1540 at Land 4 fighting against the Ottos and Sweden both at Land 11 (2 CRTs ahead!). You can still win if you use winter and outsmart them. Just don't go head to head against them.

U shouldn't worry, the reason why u lag behind is that u are in orthodox tech group. That means an extra 10% cost on research.
A little difference in land tech is normally not decisive. However, there are certain levels, which really matter. These are called CRT levels, which substantially improve fire value and efficiency of infantry. The first such a point is land9, make sure u get there in time and make sure u don't lag behind by more than one CRT level.
There are certain tactics how to fight a more developed enemy. Just the major ones:
- Benefit from attrition, build forts and let the AI to siege them through winter time. General Winter can be more deastating than anything else.
- Avoid pitch battles, but rather siege several AI provinces. The AI tends to focus on a single province at a time, whilst u can siege several at the same time.
- Benefit from the terrian, let the AI attack through a river (-25% penalty), use large cavalry units on plains and large infantry units on hills. Avoid to the a similar favour to the AI.
- Take care on the morale of your troops, adjust DP settings and maintenance, if in wa,r accordingly.
- Use your leaders wisely, try to avoid pitch battles with enemy leaders.

These basic rules normally help to fight a superior AI. There are some country specific rules, too. I.e. as Russia, u have almost unlimited manpower and a high maintenance limit. Attack "en masse" and u'll rarely fail. Surround your enemy with troops and attack again and again. U'll loose a few battles and surely more soldiers, than your enemy, but u can easily replace any losses, whilst your enemies can't. At the end, the winner will be the one, which has bigger resource$$$$... and that's u!! :)

Yeah, the AI is truly...braindead in sieges. In fifteenn years, I got three wars with Sweden (they DOW me as soon as the truce is over) and each time, they rush around 30 000 soldiers (in september...) to take over one province. Winter come, my army reinforces, they took a 25% attrition, I attack in march, they rout, end of story (With Russia, weather is really a matter. I DOW in February, invade in march, order storm the fortress in september, withdraw to home provinces in october...)

I'm not worried about defense. I'm worried about ofense. It would be nice to have Russians borders on the Rhine..

Other little question about Russia : is their an event for putting capital in Narva ?

I imagine AGCEEP wont be too different for this event. You can check DB\Events\major_rus
