Hi all,

I know that HOI4 will not have the generic "Tank I, Tank II etc" researches anymore like the previous Titles had, but germany will have Panzer IV (bad example...) Panther etc, USA will have Lee, Sherman etc.
And all of them with their own pictures, same goes for planes and ships, but not infantry equipment wich will (undestandably) not be named after single weapons but is meant to be a general representation of the available equipment.

All screenshots i have seen from the infantry technology tree so far seemed to show the german tree with G98/combat knife as basic, K98/Grenades as Tier I, MP40/Tellermine as Tier II and Sturmgewehr44/Panzerfaust for Tier III equipment

But in the latest WWW video with Daniel playing japan the japanese tech-tree showed the same pictures for the infantry equipment as the german one

Now my question:
Is this just because it's still in Beta (German equipment being the placeholder image because the others aren't finished)
or will there be no difference for all nations with this in the final game?

In my eyes this would be quite a shame since the devs seem to have put alot of effort in making the major nations unique from each other to then make the most commonly used equipnemt identical
(I mean it feels weird to me to play as USSR or US and produce MP40s for my Men)

PS:

First time writing something after having a account since 2010 and being a frequent reader for over a year now i feel like a background character in a show getting a speaking part for the firts time in the 4th season i'm in...

I agree, considering how much effort has been put into the graphical uniqueness of each major, it would be a shame if inf equipment were the same for them whole, but honestly I think it's placeholder.

Im pretty sure they said that most of that is still placeholders. They still have a couple months to flesh out the artwork.

Good catch OP, hadn't noticed it myself and I would agree it would be a shame for the majors to have the same weapons art. There sure are plenty of famous examples I think from every major to fill a slot I would think.

The thing is that it can be difficult to find something to match all major factions for all tiers. Like Tier 3 is representative of the German StG44, but no other faction had a weapon quite like it. Perhaps LMGs might be the nearest thing, but even the American BAR came out at the very end of WW1.

Maybe each faction's tree, at least their firearms, should be these:

America:
Basic - 1903 Springfield; Tier 1 - M1 Garand; Tier 2 - Thompson M1A1 OR M1A1 Carbine; Tier 3 - BAR OR M14 (last one was produced ten years after the war though but the BAR was developed in 1918).

UK and Commonwealth (CAN, IND, NZ, AU, SA etc):
Basic - Lee-Enfield Mk. 1; Tier 1 - Lee-Enfield Mk. 4; Tier 2 - Sten OR Thompson M1928; Tier 3 - Bren OR FAL (last one again is very late and Belgian, but adopted by the British).

Japan:
Basic - Arisaka Type 38; Tier 1 - Arisaka Type 99; Tier 2 - Type 100 SMG; Tier 3 - Type 99 LMG OR Type 4 (Japanese prototype reverse-engineered "copy" of the M1 Garand)

Italy:
Basic - Carcano 1891 Cavalry Carbine (w/ folding bayonet); Tier 1 - Carcano M91/38; Tier 2 - Beretta MAB-38 SMG; Tier 3 - ??? (Possibly Fucile Armaguerra Mod. 39, a semiautomatic rifle that was made in limited quantities).

USSR:
Basic - Mosin-Nagant 1891; Tier 1 - SVT-40; Tier 2 - PPsH-41 SMG; Tier 3 - PPS-43 SMG OR AK-47 (Development started during the war, but I really rather not see this as Tier 3 unless there is a "future tier") OR RPD LMG (Again, was invented but saw very little action during the war)

France:
Basic - Lebel 1886 (still limited use due to supply shortages at the start of WW2); Tier 1 - Berthier Rifle; Tier 2 - MAS-36 Rifle or MAS-38 SMG; Tier 3 - MAS-49 Rifle (Semiauto, designed prior to WW2 but they couldn't start real production until after the war).

No matter what for any of these, they will not be representative of the actual forces since nothing beyond Tier 2 listed here was issued to the vast majority of forces. Plus all these weapons were used in different amounts at differing times. They are only very rough fits.

For anyone interested I did make Japanese weapon tech + personnel carrier icons ( now almost 1 year ago, hehe )
At that time there were only tier 1, 2, and 3, no "basic equipment"
Tier 1: Type 38 rifle + Type 97 grenade
Tier 2: Type 100 submachine gun + 81mm recoilless rifle
Tier 3: Japanese assault rifle prototype ( no official name was given ) + Type 4 70 mm AT rocket launcher

Good to know that it wouldn't be a problem if the images were final.

These look like you copied them out of the game!
