Question:

I'm interested in the IES and I've downloaded it, but I would like to know before I install if it will be a seperate add-on mod (like the AGC-EEP) or will it overwrite the game files and necessitate a reinstall if I want to go back to vanilla?

The installer won't overwrite anything (except for earlier versions of the IES)...
If you start the installer you'll see that the infobox says that no files are overwritten...
