You've just documented it yourself

Everybody else's records show the same.

Isle Royale, along with a few other oddities, for some reason if you place one colonist (pop. 100) they increase at 1 per month and will reach city status after 600 months (50 yrs)

If the growth is 12% per year it will reach city status after only 18 years. After 50 it will have a population of nearly 30000!
However, since the growth is calculated monthly but the number (in the case of Isle Royale) is given as the yearly number, I wonder what percentage they use for that monthly calculation. Do they use 1% per month or 0.9488...% which would give a yearly growth of 12%? It may seem a small difference but in 50 years there is a pop. difference of almost 10000.

And, eehh.. yes I used to work as a maths teacher... :D

Is this still conventional wisdom?

I'm using 1.10 - is it still felt that growth/shrinkage is 10% of the listed amount?

I've been sweating on the negative growth rate in my African colonies, and also wondering why the colonists didn't seem to be dying as fast as they should.

That it is pro-mille instead of per-cent, yeah :)

As for the '12% rate or more = annual increase' you'll have to look for yourself.. ;)

Ta :)

Thanks - I'll go looking into the faster growth at this Isle Royalle when/if I ever get there. :)

I just found "Table" last night. Finally.
It's 1517, I've reclaimed Navarre, have tps/colonies through most of the Carribean (including a city) and also a few scattered up the NA and African coast (aiming at every 4-6 months of sailing apart, so my non-explorer ships can travel safely - I'll backfill them into real cities when I get the spare cash).

But ... I've not found the famed Isle yet.

For the moment, on this thread, I'm happy just to know that my fledgling colonies won't immediately die out from malaria.

Thanks!

I've found Nova Scotia, so I can't be far from this Isle.
It -might- require a war with Vinland, then ... they seem to own a lot up there.
Mind you, such a war would hopefully nett me a COT, too. Maybe that's worthwhile... :)
(Out of interest - am I on track for my expansion at this year?)
