So I was playing as Germany and the year was 1942. I had just executed a rather successful Operation Barbarossa and taken the baltic states, Smolensk and Sevastopol. In November I basically prepared for a rough winter and went on the defensive. I probably could have pushed on, but figured that gaining territory at this point would be more trouble than it was worth. Then in late January The soviets managed to break through my lines. in the center. I figured it wouldn't be too much of a problem despite them having slightly superior numbers.

But then suddenly my divisions became worthless. I mean seriously I couldn't win a battle with 4 to one odds and occasionally lost a defensive battle against an inferior force. There was simply nothing I could do, as soviet infantry was successfully charging through my tanks.

So the question is is this the General Winter event and how does it work exactly. It seemed that I got a -77 frozen penalty whenever I tried to counterattack, but the soviets didn't. Does Germany get some sort of special penalty during winter months?

Also at the same time the US landed at Normandy and it seemed my divisions were equally useless there, despite them having equal technology and more or less equal numbers.

Next time I guess I'll structure my defense differently and won't even attempt to counterattack, simply retreat and pray for summer.

I have the newest revision and the same problem. At the start of Barbarossa in June i have 2 months to successfully attack the soviets and advance to Leningrad, Moscow and Sebastopol making large encirclements. I manage to capture a lot of divisions. The soviets are loosing near 2500 manpower. But at the end of August and the start of September, i can't win any battle, with far superior numbers of divisions. And in november and december, the soviets counter-attack on all front and break it at some point.

Sounds realistic to me. I don't see where the "problem" is.
