Question About Feudal Taxes

Is it worth the opinion hit to raise feudal taxes? It seems like the extra tax income would be helpful, for a small negative opinion modifier.

I assume you're not running Conclave and using the old system?

No. With the slashing of positive opinion modifiers, it's even harder to keep your vassals content. Feudal taxes are nothing special.

Yeah, just basic vanilla CK2.

I usually raise it to Small Feudal Taxes and keep it there. After a while, you'll have numerous large dukes or even kings under your command, each of them holding vast swaths of land - very, very profitable land. Filtering it from Count to Duke to You or Count to Duke to King to You may give you less than their worth, but anything is better than zero and it adds up significantly.

I used to and still do post-conclave focus on feudal levies instead of taxes. But if your nation is big / secure enough then extra gold can't hurt!

I only raise feudal taxes, when I'm big and have big vassals. Because I believe, It's better (or easier) to maintain their gold income than their army size.

When you're small (one kingdom small) it's not really worth it. But once you get a few kingdoms under you and an empire then it might be worth it. But in any case your primary source of money should be cities and vassal republics.

You don't. Give the doge an honorary title, and let him raise any children you don't care about to offset it.
