Question about Dual Monitors

Does Hearts of Iron 2 come with dual monitor support?

For example: I move the cursor from the left monitor (Where I run HoI 2) to the right monitor, click say... MSN Messenger, without having the game minimizing.

Is this possible? If not, will it be added in the "future"?

Well, no. I have my 2 monitors set up to work like this: One for games and one for chatting

I want to be able to chat without having Hearts of Iron 2 being minimized. This is called support for dual monitors... I don't believe many games support this.

Well, games running on top of DirectX cannot do what you want, unfortunately, as Microsoft's DirectX blanks the second monitor (aka put it on black) as soon as an application selects a DirectX video mode. It's a restriction of the operating system.

Not true. DirectX works fine with several monitors for displaying information. Some games, like HoI, work correctly and force the mouse cursor to be on the game screen, so you can use mouse scroll properly; others, like The Sims 2 or C&C Generals, work badly and allow you to move the cursor onto another monitor. This means you often lose track of the cursor and have to wave it around until you see it (deadly delay in MP games), you can't use mouse scrolling so you need another hand for the keyboard, and it's useless since you can't click on anything in a different window without minimizing your game.

Then it's even worse, it must be video driver dependant. On my system, starting any DirectX game sends it to the monitor that's configured to be the primary adapter, and the other goes black.

Maybe. I haven't seen that behavior before, on either the Nvidia or ATI versions of the Omega Drivers. I agree that not being able to mouse scroll is crippling - before playing those games I disable my second monitor. Annoying, since I have Notepad on my second monitor for referring to FAQs and so on during play.

But then there is the router issues if you want to play online... Besides shouldn't you be devoting all your attention to the masterpeice we call HoI2?

I don't like peace times, that's all... And I especially mean quiet fronts, during the winter. That's when I need some chatting time

Maybe I am wrong here but I don't think so.

You don't really need dual monitor support. I think I saw in the video options a setting to put the game into Windowed mode. Once the game is willing to exist within a window rather than taking the full screen, there should be no trouble with multiple monitors.
