Question about colonizing in Ricky

This may be a stupid question, but if you can only have four claim buildings at a time, how do you colonize a state with more than four provinces? How does the AI, or does this only apply to the human player? I can't find any info on this in the Revolutions Wiki.

Also, what exactly do the colour codes mean? I think green means the colony is within range, blue it is already claimed, and yellow it is part of your country, brown unavailable? What about red?

It isn't 4 claim buildings total. It is incomplete building in up to 4 different potential colonies.

You can have claims being built in up to 4 colonies at a time, but can not start building claims in a fifth colony until one of the other colonies is completed.

Off the top of my head I can't recall all the colors, though I think red means you do not meet the life rating requirement to begin colonizing that province.

You can only have claim buildings in four states simultaneously, there is no limit to the amount of claim buildings in one state.

Thanks, guys. I thought that it must be something like that, but thought I would check before continuing my game. I'm playing as France, and have just researched machine guns, so the world is up for grabs.
