Question about colonial nations

I'm playing a game as England > Great Britain and, well let's just say things were going great until I got hit with massive rebels, the English Civil War, and all my colonies declaring independence all at the same time, immediately after a major war that left me near-bankrupt and out of manpower.

Needless to say, I expect to lose the colonies, so I wondered, once they are independent, does the CoP-only restriction on the CNs still apply, ie, can I play the independent nation without the CN? Or do I have to wait for, say, the 13 Colonies to form the USA, and will they do that without the DLC?

Generally, when a CN declares independence you have an option to switch to continue playing as it.

No I'm not playing Ironman, and it didn't give me the option. My question is, will I be able to load up as an independent 13 Colonies even though I don't own CoP, or do I have to wait for them to form the USA, or not at all?

I didn't notice you don't own CoP, option I mentioned is only available with it.
As you are playing without Ironman, you can just make another copy of that save, fast-forward until they declare independence, save and try to load as them.
