Has anyone figured out whether building additional industry is worth the 50% cut to IC production in that province while the industry is being produced. It seems it would be far better to simple acquire industry through expansion. Especially for the axis or the Soviets. In the case of the Allies it seems they are better off all available IC's for tech and not developing additional industrial capacity. Any thoughts?

In provinces that already contain significant industrial resources I believe you are right. I'm very suspicious at how effective enemy industry remains when you occupy and annex their territory. In future patches I would like to see this reduced considerably.

It makes tons of sense when your playing the US or a minor that wont be involved in fighting for a couple years, you don't need all the IC's anyway till you get some research done.

Sort of related ot this thread, but I have a follow-up question. When you develop industry or defences in a province, besides the IC of that province being used elsewhere, do it's resources still go to your pool? For example, If you develop AA in a province that has 15 oil, will you still get that 15 oil while the AA is being constructed?

I dont think it effects resouce extraction at all. I think the only thing that is effected is the 50% reduction in IC for that province.

But if I am wrong I am sure that BiB or someone equally helpful will come along and correct me.

Hello,

Playing my first game as USA and want to build some defenses on Johnston and Baker Islkands but there is no industry and I am assuming that is why I can't upgrade defenses, but is there a way to build an industry so I can upgrade these two provinces?

Thanks for your help, I knew this game would be deep, but holy cow!!!!! The learning curve on the technology is huge.

So........me building more industries in Berlin, with 30 IC, was an incredibly stupid move compared to building it in 6 different provinces each with 5 IC instead? Both options would cost 15 IC:s for one year, but the latter option would expand my total IC with 6 instead of 1....?

Yep. That is the same hard lesson I learned in my first couple of games. At first I thought that I was building for free because there was no obvious cost. It didn't occur to me that I was in fact dramatically reducing my industrial Capacity.

If you only gain 1 industry per province from a build order no matter how many you already have, then yes, building in your least industrialised protectable areas would be the best idea. It would also make the order a little "strange" but I'm sure that's already been debated hotly on the beta forum :)

It is indeed a bit strange. Spending 15 IC:s for one year only to increase Berlin's IC from 30 to 31 is a bit.....frustrating.:p

It should have been a percentage increase in IC instead. Or maybe a fixed IC price for a fixed IC increase.

Well I guess I am truly screwing my IC production then :(. I should have built up inland US instead of the large coastal provinces as I am losing 50% of my IC's from those provinces to gain 1:( Time to start over I guess and at least get that part right this time:) Research should go much faster now:)

Thanks Bib for your help.

Agree completly. I mean it makes no sense at all. You will loose 15 IC/day for a year which makes a total loss of 15*365 IC=5475 IC (!) Compared to the yearly gain in IC after the upgrade 1*365=365 IC. It will take 15 (!) years until you start gaining from it. And the game only lasts 11 years
:)

If I understand correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong, it doesn't pay to upgrade province with high industry input because of the immediate loss of productivity and the time required after that to gain back the lost IC's.

But I think that for provinces with low industrial output it worth the cost since for example a province with an output of 2 would make you lost only 1 IC for the year and after that you would have 3 IC instead of 2. 33% gain. If you do that early in the game to most of your low output industry provinces I think it might worth the effort... especially if you play a minor country :)

Don't bother to upgrade industry in a province where it is already 20+. You lose 10+ years productivity to gain 1 productivity/year for at most 10 years. Upgrade provinces which have the smallest industrial levels (above 0) and/or ask them nicely to patch this so its proportional :) Lose 50% to gain 10-15% seems fair.

U may find it ridiculous but if u base that statement on the "fact" it doesn't make sense u are sorely mistaken, in fact the current system can be exploited mercilessly if u want.
