I know people are working on a new map. But can I make a suggestion. A gradual introduction of regions with the new provinces. This will allow your customized events to include these new provinces. This will reduce the workload when "the map" gets introduced. I know it's been at least a year since people have been working on maps but no one has put one out that can be used.... by the general public.

Just my 2 cents :D

Sounds more like... you do a section of the map, get it just right, and release an updated map with that part done. And then the rest, in installments, until you have the final product. Might be a headache for people to upgrade, but otherwise I like it. It would at least show that progress is being made.

Yes, this is what I mean... exactly ;)

Plus it would allow your team to concentrate all efforts on a smaller piece to make a better product. Maybe even go as small as modern regions... like Iberian Penisula... for example. Do the map, update the events, trouble shoot, release, on to next region.

Suggestion noted, but as it means a lot of more work to release a bunch of maps than to release a single complete one, I guess it won't happen.

Which one is more work though? When you release one big map you have to change all your events to match those new province codes. Chase down all these and debug it. I'm just trying to help both sides out here. This doesn't mean there can't be work on one big map still. It just means that map will be used as a template for the smaller pieces that need to change on the interim map.

Well its more work to release them seperately in the long run for several reasons:

1> The maps must be redrawn in certain sections to mesh with older maps.
2> who borders what would neen to updated each time
3> many events would have to rebalanced when an ajacent area was modified, sometimes even non-ajacent ones.

Then there is the fact it'll add nightmare headache for people with dialup, like your's truly.

1>This is minimal work. Once you have the process down..this can be done in minutes.
2>Magellan does this automatically....I'm not sure what you're getting at here.
3>That's the whole point. It's still easier doing it in stages than facing the overwhelming task of doing it all at once.

Having done my own map from scratch, I can say that it was much easier doing it as JMSchaub describes than trying to do it all at once. I would work to get one area perfect...event fixes and everything, before I moved on to the next. You don't necessarily have to release it, but I would think the more sets of eyes scan for errors, the better.

1> Its minimal work if there aren't drastic overhauls, unlike the new map.
2> special case scenerios is what i'm talking about.
3>That's open to interpretation. Balancing some aspcts, say English civil war could be done relatively with a redraw of the British Isles map and would likely need to have very few if any tweaks done later. Redoing and rebalncing the british Empire events would however.

Yes it would be rather hard to model inter-regional events if you don't have one of the regions finished.
