Independence won, at least a parliment of their own. The British will find ways to beat the system, I think that is likely...

That whole bit was so implausible, it made my head hurt... I also didnt worry too much with the people on the interim authority, the party ends in three years.

On the other hand, I can finally show whats going on with screen shots, due to the whole actually having a country thing. A country with not very useful resources, a tiny population, surrounded by Britain and the United States, also no factories. Finally fun times will begin :)

stealtherella: ...5. Under no circumstances retaliate against local provocateurs, for we cannot afford to lose more of North America.

the perfect attitude to lose more of North America ! !

stealtherella:
...From his prison cell Monsieur Colere rested his eyes and looked through the window bars at the light playing amongst gathering storm clouds and smiled.

it seems that someone understands very clearly the effects of that aforementioned attitude ! ! :D

excellent update ! !

The twelve men of the Interim Authority begin what would be remembered as their only successful endeavour, a census of all Quebec. At the suggestion of the two bishops the population portion of the census was to be made by the clergy, as they reasoned who would have better knowledge of a community than the man they make their confessions to, and if the two churches could work together it would send entirely the right message to the people.

To complete the census the men of the Interim Authority examined the tax records in an attempt to discover just how wealthy Quebec had been making the British Empire, just what huge sum of money they would be able to use to improve the region. The numbers just did not add up, eventually Archibald was sent for in the hope he could clear the matter up.

Archibald started to break the news to the men of the authority carefully, choosing his words after great deliberation. Quebec was more of a drain of the British purse than anything else, its industries were highly undeveloped and its profitability negligible. The dominion of Quebec would be self supporting; as long as they made sure government spending was frugal and did not try to overplay their hand.

News of Quebec’s financial status was never publicly released but the word spread like wildfire, and this was the beginning of political parties within the dominion. Some men promised solutions to all Quebec’s problems, but did any of them really have any clue what needed to be done.

Ghostwriter, I have this suspicion you might have some inkling of whats coming.

and Capibara, to be honest I think I have even bigger problems than the USA, but eventually I think some conflict is essential.

And sorry about the big ugly image, but when I tried using four separate images it made the post go on forever, at least now you get all the information you could need at once? :)

thanks General Grant, I thought showing just how dire the economic situation is might be more expressive than trying to explain it in words.

It all depends on the political parties though, one of them is very anti-immigrants :)

I figure the harder things are, the more interesting they will be.

Interesting start!

You're surrounded by two superpowers and have an indifferent economy though. I think this is going to be quite the challenge.

With the spread of the knowledge of Quebec’s financial situation the economy took on special status as a political issue. The Interim Authority started to squabble amongst themselves in suggesting remedies for the situation. The arguments amongst the Interim Authority lead to a breakdown of governmental authority throughout Quebec, with the Lieutenant Governor resignation and all decisions needing to be passed by a committee.

political.jpg

Three political parties sprung up in the general confusion. The first being the Parti Liberti, the second the United Empire Party and the third being the Jardin Party.

The Parti Liberti was lead by Father Luc Saint-John, a well liked catholic priest. His overarching belief was that Quebec could be saved by maintaining its unique culture. His political platform was to have as little government interference in money matters are possible combined with allowing citizenship for any immigrant for anyone who could pass a French language test. He was quite firm about there being a need for Quebec to arm herself for defence. He was strongly in favour of strengthening relations with France, however the geographical isolation of Quebec from France meant that the France he spoke so highly of no longer existed except in the tales of old men.

The United Empire Party held the firm belief that the government had the right to interfere with trade and the money market if it was for the good of the people. They were in favour of maintaining strong relations with Britain and creating a relationship with the United States of America, particularly looking for recognition of their sovereignty. A key item of dogma held by the party was the belief was that there was a need to populate of perish and that if that meant opening the flood gates to immigration then it was a low cost for survival. Their candidate for the upcoming election was John Hutchinson UE.

The Parti Jardin ran on an exclusive nationalist program and kept mostly underground. To be Quebecois to them meant being Franco-Canadian and catholic. They were in favour of cutting relations with Britain and gaining an alliance with France. They felt the strong need to create an army capable of gathering within the state all Franco-Canadians, and looked to Fort Chimo and New Brunswick as future parts of the nation. Monsieur Colere was the head of the party, seen as an imprisoned patriot.

parties.jpg

But did any of them have the ability to turn Quebec from a failing dominion to a successful state, and would the people elect the right party when the time came.

----------

Never fear I have no intention of converting pops to pick the most favourable party in charge, even if I had the pops spare to do it. Each party has an event chain already coded just in case they win.

And Thanks for the interest CatKnight, to be honest I am rather interested myself in how this will turn out, I have been studying up on the best way to create an economy from nowhere.

haha, its tough to get them, Parti Liberti was to be conservative originally, but the life rating and so on basically meant to get any immigration I had to have liberals, and the Parti Liberti was going to let some people in.

I'm actually still testing things out, the events work fine so far, but with four possible results from the election I want to make sure.

If they elect the Interim Authority again, it means there as no conclusive results in the election I have given myself massive revolts, and a loss of prestige and a big hit to my key relationships.

I almost hope it happens to see how on earth I deal with it :)

The Jardin Party are dangerous, but it would seem they have popular support. Let us hope Quebec choses the right people to lead them, or they are walking into a death trap...

sniedermeierAt the bottom left hand side of the the screen there is a ledger button, if you click it, then you can check out lots of details about whats going on in the game. For more information I suggest looking here on Vicky Wiki

Robou I think the thing that makes it even more dangerous is that there are multiple liberals but only one reactionary party, which means it doesn't share its vote so much.

Okalahan I tried to check out your AARs today, but dont speak spanish :/ I did however look at all the pictures :)

Enewald New events indeed, but only half of them are terrifying :)

Just a general thought, I have changed the life ratings in Quebec, lowering them in the north and raising them in the south. I have kept the same total of points, just distributed them less evenly :)

I'd be interested into knowing where you got your party names-

Parti Liberti is not French and Parti Jardin= Garden Party

Not that it matter, tough. It seems that those reactionaries are leading right now, wich may be a more or less good thing economically but could be interesting diplomatically.

The Garden Party is based on a family story.

My uncle used to mow the lawn every Saturday morning and then attend meetings of the Darwin Garden Society every Saturday afternoon. After 8 or so years my Aunt finally figured it out. The Darwin Garden Society meetings were held in a pub, with the football on, and not a single conversation was had about gardening.

Basically I thought serious revolutionaries would hardly be silly enough to use a name that would get them in trouble and prevent their revolutionary work.

The Parti Liberti was a place holder name until I found something better, but then I decided I liked the way it sounded, and hoped it was good enough fake french that only people who actually speak it would catch me out :p

A secret regret of mine is that in highschool I did not study French. In my wisdom I decided it would be far more useful to take latin.
