as long as the morale is ofset with high tech, or good other sliders (offensive, land) -- you can certainly get away with it.
more so in SP than in MP, though (but that's for basically everything)
Quantity in MP is not used often, but for some nations it can be used to good effect.
For starters, you don´t want to be a naval country, since ships do benefit from +1 fire, but not from extra MP.

I always go quantatity in my SP games. And I am always naval in them as well. And I rarely find time to move the offensive slider. I always aim at war, but mostly in the latter phase of the game when I go for WC.

However, there is or at least was "bug "regarding the qualityi slider. The bug was that while the quality slider correctly increased the MP pool it did not increase the yearly MP you got. I do not know if this bug (or fetature) has been corrected (changed).

If the "bug" still remains it makes quantatity much less appealing.

Anyone at home that can test and report how it is?

I would assume full quantity means 2, as those last two steps IMO do not justify losing another point of fire for your leaders.

it depends, in GC you don't have any firepower.. so it's good in GC early :)

or if you want to play AGCEEP White/Black Sheep, they have nice starting settings and not enough manpower

Well, you end up getting firepower too, and in the course of a WC you have more possibilities to outtech the AI, thus seeing your firepower gaining more power sooner than the AI's.

For, if you have to let your quality drop to quantity, and then, maybe 50-100 years later, move it up to quality again, you're making useless slider moves. And given the importance of moving the economical sliders first in the GC, I doubt of the usefulness of moving the quality/quantity slider early.

Indeed. But in MP it has happened that this is the first slider I move, to step 9 obviously (for morale and +1 fire).

So early ? When you start with an already high Quality, I suppose, don't you ?

Really? isn't offensive generally better? cavarly and shock are certainly more important when you start the game, quality and the +1 fire is only really more useful around 1600, at least that is what I always thought

Yes it is Bob. But IIRC this game started in 1520 (PE 1520) and I was the Ottomans with a high LT and high quality (7) from start. Compare schock that is at 5 from start. It would take 4 DP slider movements to get that slider to 9.

But I may well have made the wrong decision. :)

In 1520 Quality might be the best option in that case Daniel. But at an earlier start, I tend to go for shock. I just love shock far more than fire, fire lets you win some battles in early game but shock lets you annihilate armies :D

I often use quantity when playing as German minors to help kick off my games. As long as I can afford to invest in military tech early to void the morale problems of quantity, the idea works reasonably well. (Or a least I think it works well. ;) )

Well, this confirms my thoughts. Should I need to increase the efficiency of my armies in that situation, I'd probably do the same.
