I beat Served Cold on my 4th try. Dropped with my commander in a Quickdraw, a Dragon with AC10++, a Trebuchet, and a Hunchback with AC20++. The Trebuchet and Dragon got cored and both mechwarriors KIA. Steep price to pay, but I am finally done with that mission!

Now I'm fielding two Dragons with AC10++, Quickdraw with PPC++, and Hunchback AC20++. I need to build up mechwarrior experience again for a couple rookies and continue to improve vets.

How much more do I need to improve lance for next story mission?

Ummm, none? You can do alot with a lance like that, you just, you know, gotta tactics it up. Lotta heavy hitting weapons there, should be decent for coring out a target if you can reserve and knock it down an then focus fire.

I did that mission in a orion, a shadow hawk, a jagger, and a hunchback. I could have done it with all mediums no problem.

I had zero internal damage to any mech when i was done except, as happens way to often to me, the orion lost his right arm(i swear hes got that right arm on quick disconnect or something, hes always leaving it behind).

Was actually super super easy at the end as Victoria proceeded to do 2 alphas in a row(didnt land a single shot BTW was shooting at 4/5 chevron mechs) and due to the broken PPC heat mechanic she overheated and shutdown and i was able to leg her and grab 2 Cat k2 pieces of salvage that mission.

Thanks for the advice! I actually advanced the campaign, and now I have a Highlander assault mech...Ho! Ho! Ho! (Die Hard!). One of my favorite mechs from playing tabletop Battletech since the 80s.

Trust me, I'd love to trade them out; however, I only have salvaged pieces of a ThunderboIt, Zeus, and Battlemaster. I'd love to get a few better heavy mechs, but for now making the best with what's available.

Did it with 4 Orions. Cake walk.
I'm thinking the current loadout should even be able to hold off full assault lances.

But then again I'm one of the LRM Stab Brigade.

Nothing like quite as satisfying as seeing a OPFOR drop from a LRM 50 wall.

Dragons have the tonnage available of a 55 ton mech. Yet get hosed by all the artificial downsides to being a class heavier. Tabletop and here there is 0 reason to take a 40, 60, or 80 ton mech unless you literally can't get a 5 ton lighter mech. 85 and 100 are sweet spots for assaults making it strangely a class with two "best" tonnage.

In a more reality based situation, 60 tons wouldn't straight up be worse than 55, but slightly more expensive and trade some possible speed for possible weapons or armor.

I am a bit amused about the story telling after the mission... I absolutely don't know how Victoria was able to eject and survive after I killed her with a random AC/20 hit to the head... :D

Definitely trade out those Dragons and Quickdraw ASAP. They're both terribly undergunned for their tonnage in this 'mechlab.

Erm, Dragons have some of the most armor for that tonnage, and i have an AC/20 and medium laser with full frontal armor.

Very tanky, highly mobile and does 100dmg hits on single components. They're great, you just need to know how to build/play them.

Well the Dragon has as much max. armor as any other 60t mech. So, every mech with more weight has more armor. So, e.g. an Orion K with 75t has even more armor, can carry an AC/20 and 4 ML + heatsinks, and has much more max armor. Ok, it is a bit slower, but that is not that relevant.

Yeah, but you'll be seeing Cataphracts at the same time, which do the "Yen-Lo-Wang but with more armor and JJs" job much better.

That's not to say not to use them, but the 60-tonners tend to carry the weapon load of a medium with the speed and agility of a heavy.
