Is it possible for german monarchists to restore the Kaiser to power in Germany? (Or maybe his son or grandson, Idk)
I know it'll be hard to simulate all the ridiculous political parties and movements and ideas that sprung up during the Weimar republic, but I guess for many people a monarchy was preferable to the Nazi's or the instability of the republic. It's at least worth a discussion right?

The restoration of the Monarchy would require the overthrow of the Nazi regime. The NSDAP was against the German monarchy, and saw it as ineffective compared to fascism. They even took measures to remove the crown and related symbols from medals and insignias. Furthermore, the victors of World War One (the Entente) saw Prussia/German Empire as the root of the Great War, and thus would be very reluctant to restore it (considering they had set up a republic in its place).

In conclusion, Kaiser Wilhelm II died in 1941, and so at any point after that, he would have to be replaced with the next in line (Wilhelm III).

The only likely situation for the continuation of the German Monarchy would be for them to have not lost the First World War.

Considering Paradox has said exactly zilch about it, I think it's safe to conclude it's not happening in vanilla. However, I'm totally hoping for and would welcome a DLC adding a "Counter-Revolutionary" or "Restorationist" faction, or whatever mechanic Paradox thinks suits the situation better.

With what we've seen about the process of changing government types through the Dev diaries and World War Wednesday part 3, you'd just have to add the hypothetical "Old-Guard Orator" or "Restorationist Agitator" character to your government. Win the next election or fight the inevitable Civil War after the coup. The Kaiser/King/Tsar/Autokrator comes into his own again. The world responds. Shenanigans ensue....etc...etc...

There are a lot of opportunities even outside Germany and Kaiser Willie for a restoration. A few that spring to mind:

1) Bring back the Von Hapsburgs in Austria or Hungary(Which was technically still a monarchy at the time). Restore the disparate parts of the shattered Hapsburg Empire and form the Danube Federation.

2) Russian Civil War - Part II. The second generation of the exiled White Army and Movement infiltrate the Government and seize the initiative. Bring back the Tsar.

3) France - Bourbon or Bonaparte restoration.

4) China/Manchukuo. Emperor Puyi takes back what's his and saves his people from the warlords, politicians, and demagogues.

...etc...etc...etc...

Multiple "lost" monarchies still had strong monarchist parties and supporters in many countries, and even some longer standing democraties had monarchists within them. Those varied in power, influence, and size, but they included:

1) Germany, where "an unbroken line of mourners" were waiting on the streets the coffin of the dead German Empress passed by in the middle of the night, due to the Weirmar Republic's insistance, from the Dutch border to the east of Berlin in the Mausoleum of the von Hohenzollern

2) Hungary, where Karl von Habsburg almost retrieved the Hungarian Throne back twice without shedding blood, and only stopped when the Regent of Hungary told him "it's not time yet"

3) France, with periodic bursts of monarchist support that maintained a presence of the party and somewhat of a potential challenger to the other parties

4) USA, where even today some monarchist party will rise up, gather a few million supporters, and then die off pretty quickly

5) Italy (yes it still had a King, but Mussolini deposed him), where Mussolini used emergency powers to dethrone him and then said (in better words and in Italian) "we have a war to fight, if you got a problem, we'll deal with it later"...

Other nations which held potential for a monarchist returns were:

6) Finland, where a monarch had been installed by the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk but had to abdicate due to allied pressure (not sure, not much information is given)

7) Baltic States, unified, same reason as stated for Finland

8) USSR, where public discontent with the Communist Autocracts could have violently demanded a return for a Tsar (find a branch family of the Romanovs)

9) China, where the Emperor could have gathered support thanks to loyal retainers and tried to sieze the country back, and that would severely weaken the warlords', the Guomindang's, and the CCP's power as a legitimate ruler would have been present with the backing of a "Divine Mandate", which held a lot of popularity with the common folk

Nations I forgot:

10) Turkey, where the populace, unhappy with the new government that did not attempt to retake the Blakans might want a return of a sultan (thanks Hayro)

11) Brazil, where strong monarchist sentiments exist even t this day coud have brought back the Brazillian Empire into existence (thanks Chaos_TLW)

Of course, Paradox will probably not include them, but there's modders for that (although I doubt many would mod the installation of a monarchy in the USA, escpecially those that live in the USA).

For now it is just playing the great war mod for HOI 3 then :3 but knowing paradox, the game will be easily moddable, but I will miss all the political parties and details that went into the previous HOI game, seeing as there are only parties which seem to have excactly fascism (or even Nazism), communism, 'freedom' (the one which seems the least likely) and 'neutral'. It just seems weird to me, but that's off topic

8) (find a branch family of the Romanovs)

That's a tough one. One of my great-great-uncles was part of the Tsarist guards and he had to hide all of his life. He was hunted down and taken as he visited his family again in Romania in the 1960's. Trust me, when it came to hunting down parts of the old Tsarist regime, the reds prevented any possibilities of anyone claiming a crown.

Lets not forget Turkey since some people find Atatürk's policies are too radical and wanted sultanate/caliphate back at that time
It would be nice if Osman Fuat (who was General of Ottoman Cavalry, Commander in Chief at Tripoli, Libya. Sometime Major à la suite of the Hussar Regt. Prussian Gardes du corps. Received: the Collar of the Hanedan-ı-Ali-Osman, the Nişan-ı-Ali-Imtiyaz, the Nişan-ı-Osmaniye, and the Nişan-ı-Mecidiye special class in brilliants, GC of the Orders of the Red Eagle of Prussia, and Leopold of Austria (1917), Knt. of the Order of the Iron Cross 2nd class of Prussia. or Ahmet Nihat (was head of "Ottoman royal family in exile" at that time) reinstate the monarchy and becomes sultan

When the 1933 DLC comes maybe we might get the possibility to choose the monarchist party and get to restore the monarchy after the nazi insurrection is put down. :)

Lol @GhostKiller01 USA monarchy. I mean who would even be king?

FYI: there are some "dynasties" in the USA, those include the Bush family, the Kennedies, and so on. Another possibility would be for one of the decendants of George Washington to press forward a claim on the rulership of the USA.
However, whichever process will take place will not happen without bloodshed. The USA would fall into Civil War over the installation of a Monarch, which would be an interesting early game event that could heighten world tension.

The United States will never be a monarchy; that fundamentally goes against the core principles of the U.S. federal system. :p

No, but in can very well be an oligarchy ... you know, powerful patrician families exchanging the presidency between themselves...

And from there it's just a few crises away from turrning into a monarchy...

The only likely situation for the continuation of the German Monarchy would be for them to have not lost the First World War.

My imperfect understanding is that a large portion of the higher ups German Officer Corp were old school monarchists. The end goal of several coups/assassination attempts on Hitler, Von Stauffenberg's Operation Valkyrie most famously, was an eventual restoration of the monarchy.

They would have went with Wilhelm III, I have to say, my appetite for a 1933 pro-monarchist party is very high.

Maybe the UK can give German East Africa and Wilhelm Land in exchange for the new German monarchy playing ball ?
