Just what is says on the tin, converts the heir of a vassal to be of your dynasty.
This generates a relations hit, but it also is another way to increase a subject's loyalty.
If you're Christian, it can also be another way to generate a "Claim Throne" CB to secure a Personal Union.

It makes a middle aged-ish person of your dynasty as the heir apparent of the country you requested it to.

Note that the relative can be older than the currently reigning monarch, and the AI can and will disinherit your relative. It also hurts relations with RMed countries and gives a nice chunk of AE.

In my experience it has a pretty narrow usecase.

The subject interaction changes the ruler of your vassal to a low (20) legitimacy ruler with random stats of your dynasty. It comes with 15% LD but that wears off after a while, and you get the same dynasty opinion modifier with the vassal. Outside edge cases where you really need the relation boost and can afford the LD, or that one Offaly achievement where you need to PU an Iberian nation, you don't get much use out of the mechanic. Or maybe if your vassal has a really terrible ruler and you wish to roll the dice to replace it with maybe a better one, but that's it really.

There are a very small number of specific events where ruling dynasty does matter. For example if you play Delhi, you start with Sirhind as a vassal, ruled by Lodi dynasty. There is an event that forces you to release them as a vassal or go to war against them, but only if they are ruled by the Lodi dynasty. If you use the subject interaction to force a relative onto their throne, the event will never fire, and you'll avoid a war with them.

Generally it is an overall benefit to have your dynasty on more thrones, and with your own vassals it's sort of a long-term investment with a LD cost for an LD reduction over the long term (assuming you are willing to fight any pretender rebels they get).

You can also inherit a vassal that has your dynasty as long as is not too big to inherit and have your dynasty and no heir, like you can with none subject nations you have the same dynasty with. This has happened to me as France getting a free inherit on Orleans at the start once since we both start as same dynasty. Saved me a little on diplo for annexing them.

You get an instant +25% LD with your vassal that ticks down by 0.1% per month, but sharing the same dynasty gives a permanent -5% (at least unless the dynasty dies out), and the +15 relations boost from same dynasty is also -1.5%. So it's really only +18.5%, and if you are going to keep the vassal for a while and the temporary increase won't cause disloyalty, it's a good move. Especially if you're planning to feed them a lot of land long term that might raise their LD a lot.

It does cause your vassal to take a stability hit and the low legitimacy will probably mean a rebel stack that needs to be fought.
