So after the update I started playing Stellaris again, this time as a warmongering xenocidal purist. I started close to a world with some pre-sentient life on it, and goody-goody I can make my ruling faction happy by purging these things, right?

Nope.

>I landed a (very expensive) colony ship on the planet, thinking I could easily enslave and/or kill the natives. Nuh-uh, can't touch them.

>Check policies: purging of xenos allowed, slavery of xenos allowed. This pre-sent race is listed as "chattel slaves" on the species menu. Seems like everything is order...

>Ok, I send my shock troops to deal with it. Nope, they just sit there, don't attack anything.

>Alright...I delete the settlement building and try to move the colonists off world so that I can bombard it or something and start over...LOL, no you can't move your last colonist off the planet. But sure, we'll delete your building and make you build it all over again.

So, how in the holy hell do I get rid of these things?

Under policies and edicts there is both a purge setting and a slavery setting. As I said in my first post, both are set to allow the enslavement and purging of Xenos species.

Under the species menu, the pre-sent in question is designated by default as "chattel slavery", but when I try to set its rights to purge or whatever, the button is grayed out and can't be used. There is as far as I can tell no way to interact with this species in any fashion.

You can can't touch purge types until you set it's species right option to undesirable. If they are slaves, it means the speeches right option is set to slaves, which locks the purge type.

It's counter intuitive, but slavery and purging are handled by three different options in the species window - species rights, slavery type, and purge type. Based on what you've said, it look like youre only trying to mess with the last two options alone, which doesn't work.

P & E has a policy that is solely related to pre-sentients.

And is completely irrelevant to pre-sentients.

Seems odd. You might want to deactivate mods and use the steam 'verify integrity of game files' in the local files tab of the games properties screen.

Alright, at least I know what the solution should look like now. More than likely this is an issue with a mod - if I deactivate mods and verify, then reactivate will my autosaves still work?

They could do, but don't quote me on that. But if it is a mod causing the problem, then you gotta remove the mod. And if it is a mod, then deactivating the mod might fix the problem without having to verify.
