I am currently doing a playthrough to get the "Suffer not the Alien" achievement, though I think I will possibly need to start over on that one.
Which brings me to the new purging mechanic. Doing this in the current patch is quite tedious, since I have to resettle one of my pops on a conquered planet, remove it from it's sector, declare all pops of the current species to be purged and then add the planet back to the sector.
In the new patch/expansion Wiz said that purging will be done on a per-species basis which should be a lot easier. Just declare all other species to be purged and your done. My question is if this will be done smartly on newly conqered planets?
I will not want to abandon those planets when all it's pops are dead, so will the AI automaticall resettle a pop of a not-to-be-purged species onto the planet, with a preference for the correct climate, or will I still have to do that manually.

If you just want it empty, there always was the "Cleanse Planet" Wargoal. Drastically streamlines the process of Cede and Purge. However you will have to re-colonise afterwards and likely rebuild hte buildings.

For the new as well as the old, the only way to keep the planet would to move or migrate a pop there. We have no clear details on how Purge works yet. In particular if it will be a removal of pops one at a time, or they will jsut vanis after 2 years passed.
