[Pure speculation] Utopia Release Date Announcement - 16th February?

I just need to get the speculation out. Do you think, that the Utopia/Banks update will be announced, if not released on the 16th February coinciding with Iain Bank's birthday?

Not saying it will be out, saying they might announce the date. Iain Banks was born on the 16th February, died on the 9th June. 9th June 2017 is a Friday, they could announce the release date on his birthday for the 9th June, to give us a little Culture, on the day he was taken from us.

That is an interesting consideration. The 16th this year would be a Thursday.

We will have to see.

I highly doubt it. Wiz have said many times they have no idea when the release date is, and that means it's a way of. He could, however, be pulling our legs and make a big surprise.

I'd love to see an announcement of the release date that soon.

As for when it releases, I'm hoping for late March myself. They seem to already have a good number of the main features in (psionic ascendancy, megastructres individualism/collectivist rework) but are still working out bugs and such (ring world bug on last stream.)

I think I'd be extremely surprised if it comes out at any date past April. Based on the progress they've made, they would have to seriously guff up the code or something for it not to be released by then.

I think it would be a mistake. I wouldn't want them to rush anything for a release date since Wiz was thinking out loud about putting features in during the stream.
It's still in some concept and active developement stage.

Release date announcement can be any day of the week, there is a special quality of making a game available on Friday (9th June).

A possible release date reveal in February? VERY unlikely.
9th June as a release date because it's a historic date related to the update's name? Possible, but still unlikely:

I mean, it would make for a fun gimmick to use the dates you mentioned. But Paradox is a programming company. They will not delay a patch for X weeks just to hit a funny date, and by now it should be clear they won't be pressured into early releases (or even early reveals of potential release dates) by the community, and certainly not by some semi-arbitrary historic dates.

MAYBE, the concept of using these dates (16th Feb, 7th Jun) was in the back of someone's mind when defining this update as 'Banks', and maybe they even intended to somehow release on these dates, but I strongly doubt they would make any kind of plans to actually pinpoint developement to a specific date. IT doesn't work like that.


In my current oppinion, with no dev sources or whatever else, I would assume the release to be somewhere in the latter half of April, with the release date reveal being somewhen in March, probably a month prior.

Nope. Paradox isn't programming company, they're game development and publishing company. I can recall at least one instance when they actually build big patch to the special date (it was Christmas IIRC) because that looked good for marketing. It was for CK2.
But I believe (I'd even say "I hope") that instance give them experience not to do so. Patch was broken, and with Christmas holidays they couldn't fix obvious bugs that break a game until holidays ends. It was very frustrating.
