Puppeting question

I've seen a lot of threads about this but I haven't seen this part answered anywhere. Is puppeting based on 1 country or the whole alliance? That is(since England was as unhistorically easy as France was hard) is it necessary for Germany to control 66% of the UK vps or do the ones Italy has count too? I have the British Isles & Gilbraltar. Italy has(thanks to getting the provinces I conquered for him) the Middle east vps. Not enough to puppet though.

The vps captured by which ever alliance all count for puppet/annex totals.
Be careful though,because it is the country that captures the capital that
gets to puppet/annex.
There can be some "oddities",mainly with Vichy/Free France.
You can find this in the "problems with 106c" thread started by me.
As you say,there has been discussion on this elsewhere also.

It sounds like you should have enough vps to puppet England.
Have you captured N. Ireland?
Iirc,you do not have to capture India etc.

You do need all the vps to annex Belgium & Holland though.

I have N. Ireland but puppeting was still blacked out.

UK may have annexed some other countries, increasing its VP in owned provinces, which might raise the bar for puppeting.

Thanks, I may have found it. Unless of course they had a 2 vp province south of Egypt all along. It's so deep in he heart of Africa I didn't notice it. I'll find out if that was the problem when I get there.

If you're not familiar with this,you can find each countries vps by going to
the "summary" screen in the ledger.

The way it's set up it's not that usegful. It's like a scavenger hunt. Now if it could be sorted by country that would help but as it is ugh.

Do the UK puppets matter? I took the 2 vp province in Africa I found but still can't puppet UK. Will taking a UK puppet like Iraq help?

You can sort by country IIRC. I had to take st. john (off the canadian atlantic coast) where the UK capital moved to, to puppet them.

Yep, to sort by alphabetical order, IIRC just click on top of the country column and it should get sorted.

According to the ledger UK had 10 VP provinces in Asia and the Pacific. South Solomons are the only island. I still couldn't puppet them.

Are you playing vanilla HOI or CORE? IIRC there is an event in CORE that moves the British capitol to st. John's (of the coast of Canada, as mentioned by LordSid). You need this one as well to be able to puppet them. The problem is that there is no way to find out that this event has fired so it seems as if it merely relocated, while in fact it counts as an original capitol, much like London. It also doesn't have any VP's, so you can't find it in the ledger, much like France post Vichy.

Iirc the vps do not change,no matter which version you are playing.I
haven't played the core versions.

Puppeting England will usually generate a wide dispersal of ex-English
colonies. It's not the same every time.

No matter, it's still better to do this.
