Also as mentioned before some events do have the option text cut off in the options buttons. I wrote the event down somewhere but forgot where so I guess I'll just wait till I see it again =X, but at least one of the current english event buttons clips the text.

As events often get changed rapidly right now, it's not practical to do the translations yet, but rather when we proceed to final testing phase before 1.05, when no new events will be added (or removed) anymore.

Current plan is as follows:

With all the event additions and changes it isn't really practical to do a complete text rewrite/overhaul until that settles down (version control issues, mostly). Once we begin to get close to a final 1.05 version (at least a month or 6 weeks from now I'd guess) there will be a period of several weeks where there will be only minor tweaks (mtth, code tweaks, etc.) during which time I'll be asking for text revisions/corrections to the English version and also translations into all other supported languages. After that's done, there will be a total lockdown for another week or two to make sure we havent missed anything. Assuming all is still well, that will be released as the official 1.05.

Italian translation is currently and constantly updated upon the latest beta patch (28/4), and is tested by italian players community on BOP forum.

It's far away from the official 1.04a: more tuning, more funny, more aderent to the game. It includes dynasties.txt translation also.

I have now completed editing the advance_names file, and sent it to you for approval. Please tell me if it doesn't arrive. This does turn out to be quite a large job! I am much more sympathetic to the lack of text fixes now.

On another subject : In the new event "This child wants to help the poor", in court_events, number 6207, the third option text reads "No, kid. Horde your wealth." That should be "Hoard your wealth", as it stands it refers to Mongols rather than dragons. Also, "kid" is a bit informal and perhaps not quite suited to the atmosphere of the game. "Child" would be better.

In that same event with the wealth-horde, the first option reads "dontate" instead of "donate". Both errors bug me every time I see the event.

And good god, I'm glad someone else took up "elusive shadow". "Illusive" is, in fact, an obscure word, but doesn't mean at all what is suggested. I cranked about that when the game first came out.

Anyhow, I'm a former copyeditor, and I'll let you know if I remember anything else that makes me wince.

The one that always gets my goat is "Royal Preorgatory", probably an error for "Royal Prerogative". There is, as far as I can tell, no such word as preorgatory in the English language.

Certainly there is. "Pre" meaning "before", and "orgatory" meaning "having to do with orgies." Hence "preorgatory" means "before the orgy".

Whether this is what the idiot who wrote that actually meant - thereof the sage speaks not.

Considering that they're all Swedes and that English is certainly not their native tongue, it might be worth cutting them a bit of slack.

Well, I'm a Norwegian, so strictly English isn't my native tongue either. Hence I feel justified in coming down harshly on anyone who makes mistakes like that. Also, while Johan is clearly a genius game designer, that doesn't make him a genius English speaker.

Seriously, how about getting a dictionary? 'Preorgatory' is the kind of thing you might type in a quick IM message. Any spellchecker should have caught it. Is Paradox operating on such a shoestring budget that they couldn't afford a proof reader? It might not matter for the HoI2 nooblets, they would no doubt be just as happy with 1337speak, but the hard-core market for Paradox games is somewhat older, well-read players. An occasional misprint is one thing, but this level of English looks seriously unprofessional. It would certainly turn me off the games if they weren't so damned good.

I'm working on the traits now, and a question occurred to me : In the trait 'Knowledged Tactician', what was the actual intention of the non-existent word 'Knowledged'? Should it be 'Knowledgeable', that is, skilled, clever, or should it be 'Acknowledged', as in renowned, famous? In the former case, "Skilled Tactician" might be a better rendition.

Frankly, there were time issues involved. Had PI been on the project from day 1 far fewer of the release issues would have occured.

Yeah, I am a native English speaker who speaks only a tiny bit of Spanish, German, and Latin, so I cut them some slack there - I can only wish I was so fluent in a second language. I agree with you that running the traits and text.csv and whatnot through a simple spell-check would catch a lot of these errors pre-release, though.

If you find you need a particular phrase for something, I graduated with a philosophy degree from a top-notch American college, and have a lot of professional editing experience. Feel free to PM me, and I will respond as soon as I notice I have a message.

The correct word would be "dealbroker". In any case, the game actually names that trait "Gruff Diplomat", which should really be "Rough Diplomat" (or just change it to Proven Dealbroker like the trait label).

That's fine, except that in the game this trait is called "Fanatical Priest"...

Umm. I don't see a problem with 'Gruff Diplomat'. It implies a diplomat with a rather curt manner, whereas, to my mind, 'Rough Diplomat' suggests a diplomat who'd prefer to conduct negotiations with his fists. Or am I being dense?
