climate wasnt the main reason for architectural differences, apart of course from the obvious resources each area had (marble in greece, wood in the north etc). however note that in greece there were architectures formed to portray the idals of each polis, for example dorian architecture (today most notably in the region of macedonia in northern greece, in the tombs of Phillip, in the temple at Dodone and other temples there) the columns are generally short and fat, whereas in ionian temples they are taller and thin, with more aetomata in the temples and other statues carved). The three styles of architecture in ancient greece were the dorian, the ionian, and the corinthian. Also worth to note that the temples in greek colonies were ussually bigger than the ones in mainland greece (perhaps due to the desire to build monuments in the expanding greek world). In mainland greece the most impressive ancient monument (apart from the Parthenon) is the temple of the olympian zeus in athens, which really is a site to visit :)

on another note: damn, someone erased his apology to me... how lupus-like :)

I'm somewhat worried. I mean, Sergei told us about one thing, and we aren't able to come up with many good ideas for it. Hmmm, i'm sure every one of us would be able to come up with many improvements to EU II... does it mean that we

a)don't know enough
b)the idea is already very good

I think it's a combination of "we don't know enough" and "the idea is still evolving." :) We shouldn' forget that CK is still in its design stages (at least for certain aspects of the game) so there might be considerable alterations to what we had known about a gamefeature.

Tough one. "Teutonic" might work, as it encompasses all Germanic tribes that settled in the countries in question (Franks, Saxons, Angles, etc).

I do not think people of Northern France have ever been called "Teutonic" :D

On the other hand French nobles were indeed Franks but the vast majority of the people was a latinizied mixture of Gallo-Romans and Franks. Of course French and German noblemen shared the same values and customs. However I think there was certainly a gap between Flemish and French people IMHO. The French Kings have never succedeed into subjugating Flanders despite their rights.

Seeing as Igloo's are mostly out of necessity...being built in areas above the tree line. Shelter would have to have been built out of what resources would have been available...sod houses...houses built of stone...underground...teepees whatever...people that a wanderers...nomadic...are going to have mobile houses...while agrarian peoples are going to build more permanent structures.

A simple ratio can be used the more time one uses to hunt or gather food the less time one has to build a permanent structure...if alot of time is available then many permanent structures can be built...

Hi all,

Now, let me say to Paradox that 7 less copies of CK's are going to sell with the amateur work being done on this production.

Not many of you understand much of anything about culture and Paradox's '11 cultures only' is just stupid. I'm sorry if lots of you are insulted by this but the utter amateur quality of this game production is horrifying us.

that's the spirit! don't offer any help or any solutions, just complain!

or wait, maybe you didn't offer us the real definition of "culture" or what your solution would be because you don't want to showcase how much you don't know...

i'm not insulted mike, i'm laughing too hard; on the contrary i think you're a small person trying to make himself sound big.

I'm sorry to see you didn't discovered any of the added features in EU2 (like the DP sliders, the event scripting module, the cultures etc.). Your loss then...

Would you care to elaborate on that? It appears you understand what it's all about, so - what is so stupid about the current cultures/WoL concept?

This entire thread has been for discussions about the culture/way of life consept. If you have anything to say I suggest you speak up about what is wrong instead of insulting the developers like you do now. The game has not even started betatesting. If you can field some good arguments you might get things changed you know.

Now, let me say to Paradox that 7 less copies of CK's are going to sell with the amateur work being done on this production.
I'm amazed that you have reached a final conclusion about the quality of a game without even knowing remotely how it will become, and what features will be there or not. I congratulate you on your clairvoyant skills...

Since not many of us understand much of anything about culture and you clearly know all about it---would you please stay and share your infinite well of knowledge with the rest of us? It's the least you can do as a superior human being :)

Sheesh, I know a game like EU attracts an unusual number of megalomaniac players, but this one gets the cake...

I don't know about "takes the cake" - I've seen some far loonier types on these boards. Remember "the Pope's" threats to sue everyone in sight?

And we don't know anything about culture? It seems to me that culture is one of the most ill-defined terms in the language: is there any question we'd have trouble defining it in a few lines of computer code?

Now now, that's a little much...

And as for your picture - Herakles on a computer? Not only do imagine him not smart enough to be able to find the "On" button, but I have no doubt that in a few moments, somehting is going to jam up or go screwy, and that computer is going to be in little bits all over the place... :D

culture

I have made many comments on thwe idea of culture
many times on both the EU1 and EU2 boards.

Havard, i actually expected better from you at least! The DP sliders, yes that was nice, not real well implemented, but nice.

The cultures were a nice add but could have been as easily added in an expansion pack. The events were what we liked best of EU2.

But what about the map innaccuracies? the AI?
The awfull COT system? the attrition system? hmmm...
the very first post was 'this is the final decision' on how many cultures are going to be in the game. For a game not in Beta yet that sounds awfull final.

As an example of 'good thinking' in this series:
Oman is diplo-annexing to much so, uh, lets make them Shiite!

Lycortas, virtually all those complaints are about other games and thus do not have a place on this thread, nor, indeed, on this particular forum. If you wish to comment on, or have ideas concerning the development of, Crudader Kings, go right ahead, but listing complaints about EU and EU2 here serves no useful purpose. It is understandable that you may have concerns about the implementation of culture in CK, but there are much better ways of discussing such concerns than the manner you apparently have chosen to adopt. Going further and perosnally attacking two active members of this forum, who are nothing like how you have characterized them is even worse. Please do none of these in this forum again.
