So i am playing England with France under PU. I convert to Protestantism even though the prestige hit could break the union if my king dies. However, my king was around 25 years old. I convert and quickly gets to 0 prestige again. But then out of nowhere the union breaks and I am at war with France, but it is not an independence war, it is the conquest of Armagnac. I got CB to restore union, but then I will have to wait another 50 years (they broke free right around the 50 year mark, does this have anything to do with it?). So anyone knows how and/or why they just broke free without an independence war?

PU can break if a pretender rebels are successfull, but this case is unlikely for france.
But if you can crush France completely with the restore Union CB you can full annex them for 100% warescore and release them as vassal and integrate them in 10 years.

There's apparently a bug where a PU subject can declare some non-independence CB wars on their overlord. I think there was already a bug report thread for it.
This. New patch lets nations use the CBs of their subjects - This got applied to PUed nations, who can use the CBs of their own subjects even when they can't use their own regular CBs.
