Trotsky getting ready to go for it, I think. The question is, will he try to do it alone? And could he conceivably work with the Soviets and Stalin, given their hatred of one another?

VILenin: Now what makes you believe that there's inevitably going to be a Franco-German conflict? Trotsky and Ludendorff are surely men of peace! :D

Oranje Verzet: Yeah, Trotsky is playing things cool internationally and domestically. But will his reach exceed his grasp?

cthulhu: Not a bad idea - but what about poor sods like Poland and Czechoslovakia who are stuck in the middle of it all? :p

coz1: Anything is possible, I suppose. Even Joe and Leon entering into an alliance of convienience. It would take the swallowing of a lot of humble pie on both sides, though. :D

Sir Humphrey: Danke!

Deflare: Anything is possible, anything is possible.

MacManM3: Oh, I'll definetley get into the game, it's just a question of when.

Hmm, with Trotskyi in France, there's no way France and Soviet Union will be friends. Perhaps there's no comintern alliance and both communist powers are allied with non communist powers.

Worth doing if the survival of communism was at stake, however.

I wonder, with two powerful communist states on the flanks, might Germany seek to detach Poland from France?

Of course, that's what they thought about Hitler and Stalin. They were right, of course, but by that time the deed had been done, Poland was divided, and the war was on.

yourworstnightm: Indeed, it's hard to portrary two Comintern alliances in game terms.

Allenby: I'm not so sure. I don't think either one would be grumbling if the other was taken out by Germany on ideological grounds, but they would have an awful lot to grumble about in terms of sheer power politics; Germany would have it's other flank secure and would likely be looking at the other keenly.

I'm sure Germany (Providing 'Germany' is acting sensibly and not going in for Hitler-esque levels of beligerence) will put it's immediate territorial ambitions behind it and try to establish some kind of warm friendship with Poland. Trying to allienate Poland at this stage will be seriously counter-productive.

Deflare: Indeed. But Stalin and Hitler were both entirely without political scruples when it came to that kind of thing. Stalin and Trotsky, however, have a personal history, and there's a lot of personal as well as ideological animosity to deal with.

I do not doubt that a 'moderate' German leadership is confident that it can dominate Poland within any alliance, treating it in a similar way to Austria-Hungary prior to 1918. Anyway, I'd imagine that Poland is more confident that an arrangement with a German that has renounced its territorial ambitions is more attractive than an agreement with France, which is not exactly well placed to provide direct aid, either on ideological or logistical grounds. :)

And an alliance with Gemany is surely much more appealing than one with Bolshevik Russia which also maintains territorial aspirations in Poland. The question is; will it end up being the two communist states against the world or will Germnay alter the balance somehow? How about an update so we can find out? :D

Been following this for a while and really wonder how you are going to mod the game after all the changes you have made to history, seems like one hell of a big projekt. ;)

(You are still planning to play the game I hope)

Well if Germany attacked the French could always move a few miles into German territory, fail miserably and then turn back and do nothing... hum... that seems familiar :D

A silly doubt.

Is THIS the game or just an introduction?

Wonderful, anyway.

VILenin: I suppose Poland would much prefer either the SU or Germany to the rather distant support of France, and a red France at that. For obvious reasons, Germany will want to do everything it can to prevent the SU and France coming together.

herm: Actually, the modding is pretty simple. Just changing a few flags, ministers, etc. Not a big job. And I'm definetley planning to play this.

SirCliveWolfe, stephanbathory: Thankfully, Gamelin isn't responsible for France's military here. If he was, then this would likely be a very short alternate history.

Kurt_Steiner: Oh, you'll know when I start the game proper; I'll give advance warning and screenshots will appear.

No change in what techs countries like France will have available at the start? Feels like you will need some way to get the "new" France in the game, play-wise, or are you planning on giving them different bonuses via the ministers?

Well, a lot of the 'old guard' leaders will be cropped, some other leaders will be promoted, and France will obviously have different ministers - probably mainly with armoured spearhead traits and that thing. As for tech, yeah, they'll probably be more on par with Germany here. It's not particularly difficult to do, though. You would think it would be, but it isn't really. It's just a little time consuming.
