oooh boy. thats gutsy. I was like "wtf" but I was thinking in *very hard* terms here. yeah, you were ready to take 'm on..

LEgaIUL.jpg

With sunken fleet there's no hope of passing Bospor strait so a pace deal is made. Annoying alliance with Morocco is broken and 73 development is secured.

err..sure!

Oat7AXR.jpg

-25% idea cost with additional -5% from Protestant aspect of faith pushes us towards -30% cost for purchasing ideas and additional group was just unlocked.

that event is seriously OP. Comparable to the national decision revolutionary nations can take for less tech cost..

Bring it on Austria!
This war will be far from real challenge as it's number 1,2,3 great powers against 5,6,7 and Protestant side has more than double of troops Catholics have (that's even when English armies counted in - but we know how bad AI is with naval invasions).

so you can be elected as HRE emperor again after war is done right? and be emperor of HRE outside hre, and KEEP your empire rank?

@atwix Yes you can the rule is, Non electors HRE members can only be a duchy, HRE Electors can be a kingdom, Non HRE member HRE Emperors are not a part of the HRE, so the HRE Duchy rule does not apply to them, unless you join it after becoming emperor, for the imperial authority.

If i have to take a qualified ques, then SKOTy plan is

Step one: win the 30 year war

Step two: become HRE emperor.

Step tree: Once ready, add Prussia's territory back to the HRE for imperial authority.

Step Four: Profit

Mmm, exploration is tempting, but this AAR promises to be the ultimate in stackwipes - so if I were to get a vote I know which way I would cast it :D

I am thinking of exploration and then ditching it in favor of innovative once enough (7th) idea group slots will unlock.

I mean, more money means more armies means more stackwipes, but better armies also means more stackwipes...but it's way easier to stackwipe native armies than European armies...decisions, decisions.

Exploration is in fact one of the better groups for world conquest games as it allows you to employ power projection doctrine. This way we can get into Africa, India and all the other places much faster than we would by snaking our way towards them.
In fact in my 3 mountains exploration was 1st idea group unlocked by me as it allowed me to employ to a limited degree power projection doctrine and I was able to blob at multiple places without generating substantial amounts of AE in any region.

err..sure!

Well of course I could try to get access and pass via Caucasus or play bait game with my galleys, but it would be just unnecessary prolonging of Ottoman war for 29 additional warscore gained. Rather than that I've killed Russia once again for a bigger gain.

so you can be elected as HRE emperor again after war is done right? and be emperor of HRE outside hre, and KEEP your empire rank?

Yup yup.

Step Four: Profit

There's also step 5 which will be explained later ;)

Can you expand on what you mean by "Power Projection doctrine" a little more? Is it purely the fact that more theatres of war means more potential rivals, and thus more chances of keeping Power Projection > 50? Or is there a nuance I've missed?

The power projection doctrine has nothing to do with power projection as eu4 term and is a modern term which came into play in 20th century when carries appeared. Basically it's the the thing USA does.

From wikipedia:
Power projection (or force projection) is a term used in military and political science to refer to the capacity of a state "to apply all or some of its elements of national power - political, economic, informational, or military - to rapidly and effectively deploy and sustain forces in and from multiple dispersed locations to respond to crises, to contribute to deterrence, and to enhance regional stability.

Basically exploration idea group allows to project power to anywhere in the world due to colonization and opening new fronts even without aircraft carriers.

That just shows a lack of innovation. Step 1: Invent aircraft. Step 2: Invent aircraft carriers. Step 3: Profit.

6. Easy war

hxJsPll.jpg

As in every war, kicking out junior war participants is on top of to do list. Full bonus to siege from artillery and artillery barrages result in crazy things like forts falling apart during first siege tick.

xiPKe4Z.jpg

Another fort fell in matter of days. The advantage of Prussian monarchy due to having extra mil points can not be more obvious as ordering constant artillery barrages does not hurt our military tech progress at all.

GR4kq3j.jpg

First junior participant is out of the war. Tuscany is forced to swallow usual peace deal - money and annul treaties.

MNzhUpd.jpg

As the war progresses the time for besieging Austrian mountain forts has come and one of our stacks operating in Kärnten was attacked by a numerically superior Hungarian army.

B5KV3si.jpg

Although the terrain was siding Hungary the quality of Prussian armies undeniable. Hungary is sent packing after the battle was won with 2:1 casualty ratio favoring us.

0RW3D8a.jpg

Austria did grave mistake trying to retake control of fort in Kärnten. This is how the battles look when the terrain is in our advantage.

UuMic2O.jpg

Royal navy have engaged Danish navy and this serves as excellent distraction so a sneaky move is executed as our troops are landing in Kent.

8JhMnUT.jpg

As Kent was occupied and beachhead was made ferrying troops into Britain has become a lot easier, just hop into boat, sail for 4 days and hop out of the boat - with careful eye looking for Royal navy there's no way our transports can be intercepted.
Early operation Sealion was a success.

6lm6uFC.jpg

Go home Austria.

54p9N8h.jpg

WIPED

wi6PvXA.jpg

Religious war is used as excuse to take additional chunks of land from Russia and to feed it to our vassal Karelia.

pFqjh4a.jpg

Fire phase comes first Britain.

HlGWMqU.jpg

Then comes the wipe.

BnaxtJL.jpg

Hungary cedes border fort in Krakow.

Yta2r8p.jpg

Britain cedes a beachhead port in Kent so further invasions against them can be launched without naval supremacy (and with cleansing of heresy CB).

v0m5r8w.jpg

After 4 years of fighting the outcome is clear, Austria is forced to admit Protestant supremacy and cedes 2 provinces as war reparations.
As Emil is crowned emperor, the Hohenzollerns are ruling the empire once again.

Oh, I've forgot yo mention bonuses of joining and winning the league war:
First one: every country which joins gets following modifier for next 100 years:
+0.5 Yearly army tradition
-5.0% Military technology cost

If either Catholic or Protestant establish religious supremacy the winning side gets:
+0.25 Yearly legitimacy
+1 Tolerance of the True Faith
+1% Missionary strength
+25% Imperial authority

Extra imperial authority means less provinces to add when we want to pass reforms. Extra legitimacy and missionary strength is self explainable and extra tolerance of true faith always comes handy as it lowers revolt risk.

Exploration seems tempting as only France is actively colonizing and Prussian states of America is something I'd like to see
Already outdated but I would definitely like to see a Prussian states of America. Great victory over the Empire too, very enjoying all this :).

7. Projecting that power

rAEgIe4.jpg

Exploration idea group is taken and due to still having Emil as a ruler with juicy -25% idea cost, first 3 ideas are taken which allows us to establish a colony in Gros Friedrichsburg, our staging port for our upcoming operations.
Gotta love dynamic province names

NccnJ1Q.jpg

Bohemia was the only non-reformed, non-catholic elector and as victory in league war automatically removes electorate from everybody who's not winner's faith they became sole elector in the HRE. They got force vassalized for that to ensure they'll vote only for us once Emil dies.
Basically 6th imperial reform passed, without passing 6th reform.

tnyDRfY.jpg

Quick war against papal state, unfortunately I've dismissed a pop up after stackwipe of routed Papal armies in Romagna.

LmVwAAn.jpg

Papal state cedes Rome (everything beyond that would provoke coalition as in Rome there's staggering 34 development), the reward for that is an extra missionary and a bit of yearly prestige.

5c2UIDq.jpg

Few provinces were added into Empire to strengthen our authority inside HRE. Reward for that is passing 2nd (extra diplomat and +1 diplomatic reputation) and 3rd imperial reform (+0.5 legitimacy and -10% coring cost).
There are severe penalties for reform passing if you're overextended so keep that in mind when you're adding land to HRE in order to pass reforms. It's always better to do it while having 0% overextension.

4AACxm4.jpg

A claim was made for Aragonese held Sardinia as we're not directly bordering them for cleansing heresy CB.

R3bMv16.jpg

But the real goal is not Sardinia - it's Iberia. Iberia is geographically and culturally isolated so taking land there will only anger Iberians and France. Plus half of the Iberia is controlled by Morocco, which won't bat an eye.

Xp6h3F9.jpg

Silly Russia, this is not how you fight wars. Russia went bankrupt shortly after 2nd war with them and they're in non-stop bankruptcy spiral.
My personal observation is that in 1.20 where you can go voluntarily bankrupt countries go bankrupt more often and often end up in horrible bankruptcy spirals even with full revanchism which was designed to prevent this.

thl4VEg.jpg

The result is 100% peace deal, 154 development.
The peace deal was carefully tailored to take full 100% worth of occupied provinces (unoccupied provinces do cost more warscore in a peace deal).

QDgYQIE.jpg

Time to show Iberians how reconquista is done.
As our navy no longer fights in inland seas it's time to switch from galleys to heavies.

YWxuOIq.jpg

Tlemcen and Tunis also joined the war, but they're no match for Prussian soldiers. And in the end they're forced to annul aliances.

ndDCGZQ.jpg

111 development with 50% increased coring cost, luckily for us these cores will expire and most of them will be fed to Portugal anyway.
Portugal is released as vassal and forced to become Protestant so they'll convert land for us, if released as a vassal Portugal takes religious as 4th idea group which makes converting Sunni land easier.

v6Xxsmc.jpg

Map reveals for us and we discover Ming sitting at 100 mandate with all reforms passed. Scary
The ongoing war is against Crimea, not much to say as it was a mere landgrab to access Shivran and Nogai.

DymKAru.jpg

We're slowly making our towards Ming.

65IO3ea.jpg

As it's now year 1600 it's time to peek into ledger - countries sorted by development.

ogb5oZq.jpg

Countries sorted by standing army size.
That Ming
Also France, Ottomans and Denmark made a triple alliance of doom

frkl9rl.jpg

Global trade spawns and age of absolutism is imminent.

kXWQWaS.jpg

Due to nearby colony we get a holy war CB on Kilwa. Time to start projecting our power into different corners of the world and start monopolizing Zanzibar trade node. Cape is already controlled by us so there won't be anyone stealing trade from Zanzibar node.
What's so interesting at Zanzibar node?
It has only one outgoing node which can be also easily monopolized so there won't be any competitors trade power propagated upstream which in the end results in absolute control of Zanzibar node which basically makes it an endnode to which you can steer trade from India, Indonesia and China in order to make absurd money.
I foresee this will get even more ridiculous with new changes to trade company provinces.

B43vWuf.jpg

Maldives are attacked and annexed thanks to the claim made from Diego Garcia, our colony.

7lTjGTj.jpg

Another war against Russia, which is still enjoying bankruptcy loop. This time no battles were fought.
As annexation process of Karelia has finished Perm is released as a vassal and will be fed rest of Russia.
Perm, when released, takes religious as 1st idea group and administrative as 4th idea group which makes them an ideal vassal for feeding a lot of land.

21CbhTB.jpg

Vinegar is attacked and stomped. A base in India will be established soon.

t9d7dXn.jpg

In the end just 3 provinces are taken so noone in India apart from Vinegar cares.
My general rule in these proxy war is to cause only enough AE so nations which I will have truce with could only join, but due to to truce and improve relation the AE will be gone once the truce is over.

BSskaZi.jpg

Threaten war is used for Ibonia, this way we'll have a staging port there and also Holy War CB.

ZHD20dt.jpg

Time to feed Portugal a bit more. Morocco renewed alliance with Tunis, but they're both badly beaten in their attempt to recapture Moroccan capital Fez.

GXKhTaQ.jpg

In the end just four provinces are taken as our AE in that corner of the world is still quite high, time for us to shift attention.

nJ8Bunx.jpg

Age of reformation ends, long live age of absolutism!
The age has barely started and we already have fulfilled 4 of age objectives!

And not let's take a look at age of absolutism.

Objectives:
Three Trade Companies - Have 3 Trade Companies
Quite easy to accomplish if you're using the power projection approach as I did in last chapter.
Multiple Universities - Own and control at least 5 Universities
Universities are unlocked with admin tech 17 which unlocks (0% ahead of time penalty) around 4 years before age of absolutism so this one is definitely easiest one to obtain.
Potential for a Large Army - Reach a force limit of 200 regiments
Depends on how much blobbing have you done, but you can always build some regimental camps to increase your forcelimit.
Absolutism - Have at least 90 absolutism
This one will come later in the age and is tied to a specific governments etc., you can forgot about this one if you're playing Great Britain with their government as it gives -30 absolutism. Also republics will have none of this.
Emperor of China - Be Emperor of China with a mandate of at least 50
Depends on your starting location and religion, but given the fact that you're already 160+ years into the game you should have this, provided you start in Asia.
Multicultural Nation - Have at least 5 different promoted cultures
Unless you have + promoted cultures in your national ideas or humanist idea group it will become available at dip tech 20. Very easy to obtain.
Win Religious War - Be on the victorious side in the Religious League War
If you're playing in Europe - you should be having this.

Bonuses:

Edict of Absolutism - Allow Edict "Edict of Absolutism" ( −0.25 Monthly devastation)
Nice edict to have to help with devastation without having to pay for forts. The only downside is that edicts are only allowed in state provinces.
Flexible Rivalries - −50% Change rival cost
In my EU4 career (1000+ hours and counting) I've changed my rival like 3 times so you can picture how useful this one is.
Protecting Forts - −100% Fort maintenance on border with rival
As someone who plays without forts ... Not much of use, but I can foresee a usefulness of this for people who play with forts and I may build a medieval Siegfried line just for fun.
Efficient Autonomy - −50% Autonomy change cooldown
As absolutism comes from lowering autonomy this one directly translates into more absolutism.
Harsher Treatment - −50% Harsh treatment cost
Useful for containing rebels and also more absolutism.
Administrative Efficiency - +5% Administrative efficiency
Admin efficiency is best stat of the game. Period. 2nd pick after absolute government.
Absolute Government - +1 Yearly absolutism
Definitely 1st pick as it will allow our absolutism to rise.
French Musketeers - +20% Land fire damage (available only to France)
Makes fighting France actual fun. The best one of nation locked bonuses.
Dutch Officials - −0.20 Yearly corruption (available only to Netherlands)
Most likely worst one of nation locked bonuses. At this point of the game corruptions stops being an issue.
Swedish Recruitment - +35% Manpower recovery speed (available only to Sweden)
Quite OK, given the fact that all manpower problems can be solved by using mercenaries.
Manchu Banners - +50% Possible Manchu banners (available only to Manchu or Qing)
May seem overpowered but it's not. At later stages of the game your armies will at most 10-12% of banners, and adding another 5% on top of this is not a big deal.

ogb5oZq.jpg

That Ming
Just like we know Ming ever since MoH came out, so enjoying and fun ...

Absolutism - Have at least 90 absolutism
This one will come later in the age and is tied to a specific governments etc., you can forgot about this one if you're playing Great Britain with their government as it gives -30 absolutism. Also republics will have none of this.
Is Absolutism actually working as it should, because for the few runs I did after MoH came out I never saw Absolutism in my game or any other nation actually higher than 1 or even 5. Seems like it never increases.

Protecting Forts - −100% Fort maintenance on border with rival
As someone who plays without forts ... Not much of use, but I can foresee a usefulness of this for people who play with forts and I may build a medieval Siegfried line just for fun.
If you're surrounded by your enemy and can place lvl 6/8 forts with Defensive and who knows what, maybe even in mountains... Would be very enjoying seeing AI suffer with that.

Administrative Efficiency - +5% Administrative efficiency
Admin efficiency is best stat of the game. Period. 2nd pick after absolute government.
Is 5% efficiency that much that it's a 2nd pick? Seems quite a low value to me, but of course I'm not a blobber. Nice chapter, great to see Prussia in India and Africa.

Speaking of, Atwix, have anything new planned to amaze us with now that there are yet more features to use and abuse?

I kinda am hooked to streaming tough achievements on very hard; after my Haida aar i felt the need to stop playing the way I did for so long, and to play ten times faster with less popups on casual achievement campaigns. And it worked! I get loads of enjoyment out of one-trying stuff like Trebizond, Granada,Perm and Manipur etc on very hard.. Hope the twitch community learns a thing or two is what motivates me there.

And guess what? Thanks to my new style of playing, I know play 30 times slower then the average eu4 player, INSTEAD of 200 times slower!

All I can say is, what me on twitch or youtube, cause I had my fill of Eu4 AAR playstyle for while.

Sorry :(

Exploration idea group is taken
Err.. sure!

Basically 6th imperial reform passed, without passing 6th reform.

*grin*

Countries sorted by standing army size.
That Ming
Also France, Ottomans and Denmark made a triple alliance of doom

Oh, on very hard Ming would have 600 forcelimit and 500k army. And That triple alliance would have 1 million, especially if Ottolob takes quantity and offensive.

So, it could be... worse.

For a while, so the door is open for a sudden return. That's acceptable for me ;), and good that you play way faster than usual, otherwise we would've had to watch you guessing for for 4 hours whether to declare a war or not instead of 1 hour :p.
