Unifying Germany is kind of a right of passage in this game. You start off wanting to do it, and many people play their first games as Prussia (I know I did). But the unification is a complicated series of triggers and prerequisites, and you usually fail at your first attempt, unless you just have dumb luck.

Strange ... I ever played with Italian small countries :D.
And I ever conquered the world to bring democracy and justice everywhere.

Yes fish and fruit is very attractive in this game ;)

Fish is needed for canned food and fruits are need for wine. Both are required to make units...

Or then the Conservative Empire. I didn't even try really, I didn't need to.

I did the conservative empire the first time I took a stab at Prussia. Granted, it wasn't my first game, but it was my first real warlike game ;) Had to satellite all the little guys. Second time I played Prussia I did it the historical way, trashed Denmark/Austria/France and after unification the Germany created was a powerhouse. 2.5k prestige ahead of the UK, 500 industry ahead of the USA. The Bismarckian social reforms came up and put me 500,000 pounds in debt, which would normally suck - but with 1,200/day surplus, the only long part was paying it off.

Ok, if we can stop all the bragging. :)

Memnon is right. Prussia is a very attractive nation to start with for history buffs (which just about IS the Victoria crowd). And Prussia has distinct problems for someone brand-new to the game.

For one thing, as has been mentioned, Prussia has no from-the-ground-up industry. Doesn't produce enough timber, nor iron, nor of course cotton, etc. Every industry involves an import. Can be overcome, of course, but it just makes the country a tad less easy to play than, say, Russia or the U.S.

Then there's the political situation. A newbie is probably struggling so hard to get his economy going that he doesn't notice when Denmark allies with Russia, and then in 1847 he suddenly has a two-front war on his hands. Probably hasn't been increasing his mobilization pool, either.

Stop stroking your egos, fellas. :) I would under no circumstances recommend Prussia for a rank newbie.

So, when the historical event fires the first time, you STAY as Prussia, right? And then you make the North German Feds a satellite, duke it out with the Austrians and at least get a white peace, and then beat down the French by rushing like madmen for Paris? Just making sure.

For the historical unification? All you need to do is take Paris after 1870/71. If you want to follow the exact historical patch then turn down the frankfurt assembly and take your cores from denmark too.

Funny thing about creating the North German Confed, didn't it happen historically? With Bismarck the chancellor of it before he became chancellor of unified Germany? It wasn't an actualy state the way Vicky has it, just a military/economic alliance created when Prussia reorganized the alliance system in Germany so that it dominated it instead of Austria the 7 weeks' war, and helped unification rather than make it impossible.
