The sphering AI in Vic2 acts along the following scheme:

1) If you start to influence a nation, the AI have interest in, AND you are dangerous for it (at least friendly), the AI will attemt to immediatly obstruct you as much as its influence allows.
2) As long as you invest influence in that nation, the AI will do the same
3) If you influence the nation, and the AI has 65 influence, the AI will ban you.

So, obviously 3) is what you don't want, so your main goal is, that they never come to 65 influence. To do this, you need to exploit 1): If the AI reaches 25 influence, you stop influencing the nation, until the AI stops as well (takes 3-4 days). Then start influencing again, the AI will discredit you. After this expired, repeat. To do this the most efficient, alternate between Saxony, Bavaria, Wurttemberg and Baden.

Small point: If you influence Luxemburg right from day 1, France will discredit you, but (probably) not invest in Luxemburg. So you need only level 1 influence.

If you can, get the AI to discredit you and waste 25 Influence, then put your Influence pips somewhere else that they're interested in. That will distract the AI until the discredit wears off (6 months), and then you can go back, cancel all other Influence pips in other countries, and dedicate 100% of your efforts on that target. If you're lucky, the AI may even use its Influence to discredit some other country instead of you. If you're not investing Influence in a country at the moment, the AI will never take diplomatic action there to stop you, so in most cases, if there are other countries contesting the same target, once the AI reaches 24.9 points, STOP, and the AI might burn someone else instead. I've managed to get Saxony out of Austria's clutches while only getting discredited twice (once practically at the start of the campaign), but usually you have to personally take 3-4 discredits before you can gain the upper hand.

Once you knock the target out of their Sphere of Influence, don't toss discredits to slow them down, save up at least 50 points (assuming that you're both at Friendly) and then sit and wait for them to reach 90+ Influence, THEN evict their diplomats, costing them 90 points for your expenditure of 50. If you can save up 65, that allows you to ban them, costing you 65 points to wipe out their 90+ points and gain a full year with free reign in that country.

Thanks so much gang.
I’ll try..

I had bonuses to Diplomacy(tech), got them to Revoke and Claim Saxony , and then lost them as their points went up much faster than me.. I’d get 1 point of influence, and they would go up 3 in same time..

Have to Redo, so frustrated..
Regards
JM

There are bonuses or penalties depending on Relations and alliances, so Austria will have some advantage. Use your diplomatic points to boost Relations with Saxony to 200, and it should increase your Influence. Get up to 99+ points, but don't kick Austria out until they're in the middle of some other Influence war against France or Russia, THEN give them the boot. Also, make sure that you aren't spreading your Influence out among several targets simultaneously. You can click the icons at the tops of the headings to sort by influence of each country, for example, or to quickly see where you're using Influence without scrolling through the entire list. You should be able to almost match Austria's rate of Influence, but they'll still have some advantage until your significant Literacy advantage gives you a few tech boosts. Once you've got a lead, it's a lot easier to keep it.

There are also decisions and event chains that kick off later in the game for Prussia to form NGF and then Germany. I usually pick up Saxony either with an early war with Austria (take Bohemia, kick them out of GP status) when I want to form Germany aggressively or with a later war (assert hegemony only) when I want to form Germany patiently. I've never had a run as Prussia where I didn't have a war with Austria - quite often, Austria can be an aggressor in a Brothers' War!

I like cutting Austria down to size, then occupying and waiting until they lose GP status. Then i wait until the truce ends, sphere, form Germany, and get Austria, Hungary etc. annexed all for free by event.

Sometimes that works.

And then, sometimes I have to choose between a kleine-Deutschland or reloading and hope Austria chooses differently... :)
