Well, it's been a year since I played Victoria last, always preferring the 'little' guy. Canada, USCA, Japan [Well, medium guy in that case]. So a few days ago, I decided 'You know what, since Adam is thinking of making a Propaganda mod for Dictatorships, I should start a new game of Victoria to get back in the groove'. I decided, what the hell, I'll play as Prussia.
My first time playing as such a major player in the Industrial Revolution. I was surprised at all the events, and was worried I wouldn't be able to form Germany. Well, that came and went with no problem, and now despite having 50 badboy, everyone keeps trying to keep relations with me on good terms.
However. Capitalists have always been my bane. I prefer Socialist countries, dictatorships usually, because it's far too micromanagement-happy to actually get a socialist party in power. I like being able to use my own money and resources to quickly build and expand my industrial base. Any capitalists I used in the past have screamed PAPER while pushing a 'build a paper mill' button, and that's it.
This time I'm stuck as Laissez Faire, but my Capitalists aren't being completely useless. I have about 400,000 of the buggers, and they... they're building useful things. I said to myself 'I want a better navy' and they built me a Steamer Shipyard three days later. 'Huh, I could really use some dye, I don't have any RGOs with it', they build me a Dye Plant. 'Hmm, fuel using ships coming up so--' and they built a Fuel Refinery. They even built me luxury clothing and furniture factories.
All that being said, do Capitalists from different culture types act differently? I've never seen this discussed before, but this is the FIRST game I've ever seen where Capitalists have done more than build paper mills. Even Adam's experience has been all paper.
Also, it's good to be back.
