I recently started a game on Sandbox with the United Kingdom. I'm currently on the 6th of October 1950, so about a year completed. First thing's first, the Korean War started a few months ago (game time) America was already there so they got tucked in with the fighting aswell as S.Korea. I got pulled into the war because of alliance's. So I began to send 21 Infantry units (No oil used as was extremely short) Once I arrived I calculated that they weren't going to do alot of damaged and decided I need some Artillery bombardment. Lucky enough I'd recently moved 5 Destroyers to Diego Garcia, took them out of reserve and off they went to fight in the Korean War.
Once upon arrival the Destroyers could not border creep from the S.Korean side (Near Wonsan) onto the N.Korean side as the land units do very easily. Thus I could not bombard from the sea. When I tried the sea units just went to the nearest port which happened to be a taken over N.Korean port of Sinpo.
Obviously I could Bombard from sea if I was at war with them, but I'm not, it's a proxy war and I'm fighting for the S.Korean's.

P.s One more thing, seperate, the Malayan Emergency also appeared on 1st January 1950, news report told me insurgents popping up. Took a look but nothing happened over in Malaysia

Anyone else had similar problems?

I've ran into this problem as well. There are a lot of limitations to proxy wars. Neither ships, nor aircraft will enter enemy territory. Also, much to my dismay, ground units only return fire, this is very annoying as artillery dosn't fire as they get close. Another thing is that bombers won't bomb units that are in enemy territory. The only thing that you can do at the moment to give your army/navy/air full permissions is to openly declare war.

Yes I also just found out you can't use bombers. So in the end I just declared war on N.Korea as had 83% CB against them anyway. Although the Proxy War system seems as though it looks like great fun and a great idea, But, it isn't anywhere near finished in my opinion. In the Korean War, S.Korea was the defender against N.Korea attack and the United Nations stepped in to defend S.Korea (type of Proxy War) and the UN did indeed use aircraft aswell as Navel bombardment.
Although China did ally instead with N.Vietnam recently on mine and they are defending the North very well. They have pushed the French and S.Vietnamese back. Pics if anyone interested that the AI does work to some degree.

I would be having a lot more fun with proxy war in Korea if the North Koreans actually took part - after an initial invasion frenzy, they are turtling in the far North - they don't even seem to like hanging out in Pyongyang. They do send an occasional tourist down to the border though. They are very welll supplied by me (units, petrol, goods, verbal harrassment) so thats not the issue.

I'm pretty sure you can bomb if you change settings to let your air units cross 'neutral' territory - or maybe the explosions I keep hearing are just the South Korean AA taking out my planes as they go sightseeing overhead :)

BTW, anyone know to see individual battle details as they occur a la HOI ?

That doesn't work either. They will fly to the unit, but if you are not at war with that country, your bombers won't attack.

Bombers will bomb "enemy" units IF they are in combat. If you just send them after an unengaged unit on the enemies side, they often wont attack it on their own.BUT if that same "enemy unit" is engaged in combat with a unit from your side, the bombers will bomb it.

AND if the target is a unit fighting for the enemy, the bombers will attack targets of opportunity along the way as well.
