Some countries have too many provinces! It takes forever to go thru all the possessions and provinces to make sure they are still productive and not sitting on their hands or building ant-aircraft guns, etc. Something must be done about that. IMHO this makes the game virtually unplayable. A3

No no and again no  !!!!

Most people here on the forum were fighting for more provinces since two years.

BTW, I think HOI2 will make managing your whole production/micromanagement much more easier, so no fear.

What you refer to as "too many" provinces can be easily remedied by a thought-out user-interface, such as province-upgrade-queus or lists of provinces .... as this game is mainly about warfare and in HOI1 battles could be over after an hour the conquering-experience does not have enough "flavour" if you take huge chunks of land at a time ... a bit of a "grand operational" touch sounds good to me ...

also that remark about productivity ... as you have an IC-pool and you yourself are upgrading AA's etc. it shouldn't be too hardkeeping an overview ...

The US & Canada look fine to me ... :) (very fine actually)
and Europe hasn't changed that much ... the unplayability factor of airwarfare-micromanagement has been solved in an very intelligent manner ... and in my experience provinces don't require that much of micromanagement ...

WW2-Atmos is the word ... :)

.

1st I hope there will be a more balanced province allocation - US seems have to much - Canada or some other nations on the screenshots to less.

2nd the province movement-time issue should be partly solved with the attack during movement solution - but max. movement time should get capped at ~20 or 30 days even in the large, low INFRA & rough terrain provinces!

3rd province building-queues or some other solution will be necessary with that amount of provinces!

Smaller provinces means less travel-time (less distance to cover). Movement=attack will probably tie in with infra ... as far as I can understand it combat does not take place solely at the border but is taken into the province itsself (there is a something looking like a progress bar in on of the screenshots)
so combat in low-infra would presumably take longer than in high-infra ...

It was my understanding that there were Vicky style "states" made up of many provinces. For example, in the D-Day scenario screenshot, you'll notice that 2 Allied Air Wings are assigned to fly Air Superiority and Interdiction over Normandy. Now take a look at the province names... there is no Normandy. My bet is that Normandy is a region or "state" if you will. Additionally, notice that 38 Group is flying Air Superiority over all of Netherlands... not just one of its provinces. Basically, this means that your aircraft aren't flying over just one province but over a region. Now if Johan and team are smart enough to do that to simplify air combat, then they surely did something similar for province management.

All in all, you can have your cake and eat it too. Smaller provinces for more interesting ground warfare (i.e. flanking maneuvers, quicker move times, etc.) while not increasing micromanagement on the domestic / production side of things because there are fewer "states" (where I assume you'd manage such things) than provinces (where battles are fought).
