Province names on map

Probably been asked before, but the search function's been disabled, so...

Is there no way of changing the province names on the main map (e.g. 'Tula' to 'Moscow')?

No, it can't be done, but you can change city names.

City names are just a text change in a .csv file. I'm wondering if a graphics application can be used to actually change the image which the engine uses for the map (even just deleting the names using cut and paste might be an improvement).

If you have a few gigabytes ram to spare you could just open the map and redraw it

Or maybe it is the old thread on map editing. I think it is somewhere in one of the editing subfora, but the general consenus was that map editing was difficult, right?
