I am glad you like my suggestion for Scandinavia. Though I am unsure if there need to be wasteland between Finnmark and Lapland. Could you actually move a army between those provinces back in the 1700 century?

I don't know about Finnmark and Lapland, but you've just killed Akureyri.

All India should be one province -
We don't need no more then that.
Let England, or Venice, or Hamburg
Annex it, be large, rich and fat.

Unable to fend off Europe,
The whole Indostan - it was weak.
Why bother with more then one province?
It was so submissive and meek!

But Thrace and Morea - they should be
Divided 'to many small forts.
The Romaion honor demands so,
You sneering vile Turkophile snorts!

Let Roman Empire be restored
In nearly three quarters of games.
From Alexandria to Septum
Byzantium shall spread its fame.

Isn't India indeed, oh, so strong!
Myriad men marching, their columns so long!
From frontiers far away o'er yonder,
They toll their thorny tax of iron, gold!

Why do we even want Rome and the popes?
Some sing of Sweden's mismatched provinces!
Does it matter if They increase Malmö?
Does it matter if They iff up Stockholm?

No, Paradox should know that now Bavaria,
The land of lords that lude loud poetry,
Holds the keys to their theatric success,
That we gamers want to see that most epic game,
That game of Bavaria Universalis

RE: Mountains.

They're always hard. Yeah, you couldn't cross them... Except when people did. (Like Napoleon, or Bolivar) the swedish-norwegian mountains were passable, but there was always the chance you'd get trapped in a blizzard and freeze to death, but in the summer? Sure. The scands aren't really that impressive as mountains go, they're pretty rounded.

Considering that 99.9% of troop movements during the game period would be better represented by making certain hard-to-pass borders (mountain ranges, swamps, dense forests) impassable, it seems that it would make the game more "historical" to just have them impassable. If nothing else, the AI would be better off.

On the other hand, many sea provinces should be impassable wintertime, so an effect or modifier that makes provinces temporarily impassable would be quite nice to have.

Does Paradox actually listen to these threads? I really really really hope they do

They do listen, but they also always go on and do things their own way regardless. Sadly. But you have to remember that designing a game is not simple, and although the way some provinces are shaped might be important to some players, ultimately, there are some issues that we are not aware of (AI or balancing etc) and thats why gameplay reasons > real life shapes.

Good part is, there are many dedicated modders (like myself) who will change this almost as soon as it comes out. So youll have twice as much fun in the end.

I removed one province from Greenland and one from Iceland too. I added the Faroes, Kalmar, Bornholm, Åland, Aalborg, Blekinge og Kristiansand.

I furthermore did some work on the borders. All the black on the map is wasteland.
You should put back the other province from Iceland or make it island-wide. The place was not a complete wasteland. Aalborg should be named 'Vendsyssel' or 'Nordjylland' - Aalborg is just the capitol. Slesvig should be split into Slesvig and Angel and Sjælland into Sjælland and Øerne (Lolland, Falster and Møn). Then the map would be perfect.

If you want Paradox to include or change provinces then you ought to provide arguments for the inclusion/border change as well. The Nordic region didn't have a major problem in regards to provinces even back in EU2.

Regarding Scandinavia I find it hard to see what a province for Kalmar, Bornholm, Nordjutland and Akershus add in terms of gameplay and accuracy. Kalmar was never a Swedish province, Bornholm was utterly small and unimportant and the other two could impact balance in Germany and Scandinavia. Removing one each from Iceland and Greenland does make sense IMO. Iceland and Greenland were two distinct units/provinces, not divided, though Greenland is unsettled at start..
Looking at that map, then the lakes Siljan and Storsjön are misplaced, the borders for Västerbotten make for a big eye-sore and I'd argue that it should be possible to access Finnmark from the Kola peninsula but perhaps not so from Lapland (both of them). Also, the edges of the borders look very much like present day and doesn't really resemble the feel of an historical map. The reason I mention the borders is because I'd love for it to look good even if Norway or Denmark manage to take a couple of provinces from Sweden, atm the map seems to only assume that the borders will change by Sweden taking some. If Denmark-Norway take only one extra province from Sweden from the set-up the new national border will look really hideous. Imagine Denmark with Western Småland or Norway with Dalaskogen.

I don't see what another province in Italy, France, Germany, England, <insert overrepresented region here>, etc. would add to gameplay. Making more provinces in Scandinavia does add something to gameplay though as Scandinavia was unrealistically weak in EU3 compared to the immense powerhouses in the rest of Europe. Part of that problem was the lack of provinces they had in comparison. Provinces serve to make a region more fun and engaging, it adds immersion. Now it is funny that you mention Bornholm, because Bornholm is the perfect location for a naval base, it also ended up being handled separately from Skåne. Nordjylland simply adds to the fact that Jylland was not one province. Adding provinces in Scandinavia simply making the game more balanced on a raw numbers level, but also making the game more interesting.

This is better than vanilla but it's still some things that must be changed (Österbotten shall just be the coastline (the rest may be called "Lapi" or something...) but anyways, this is better than vanillla!

Please be aware that provinces are defined primarily for gamebalance purposes. If they coincide with historical borders, then that is a bonus.

This is a Paradox game, its not supposed to be balanced :)

But Scandinavia is not supposed to be some sort of powerhouse, it never was one. If you add provinces in Scandinavia you need to balance it with Russia, with Germany, with the Baltics and possible also Scotland. Look, the current provinces are what they're going with, simply adding one more needs a lot of motivation, taking one away and putting in a new needs motivation, but probably less so. Regarding Jutland, present day Sweden is supposed to be composed by 25 provinces by the same logic! ;) I mean if you want them in then I'd say provide your case, otherwise I don't think it will mount to anything.

I would really like to see the far-northern provinces (like Iceland, Greenland, Kola, Finnmark etc.) made larger and more inhospitable with some kind of arctic-penalty, which limits army-size and reduce population growth significantly.

Instead of two provinces on Greenland and two on Iceland, each of those islands should only consist of a single province. Without those provinces you could add two more provinces in Southern Scandinavia.

Bornholm and Blekinge should be cut out of Skåne province and made seperate provinces. As the map is now, Bornholm simply becomes Swedish once Sweden take Skåne. But that is historically incorrect. This way you would keep the balance of the game, cause you would remove two Danish provinces and replace them with two new Danish provinces.

Btw. during the Kalmar War Denmark tried to conquer the Göteborg-region (named something else back then), this would have severed Sweden's acces to the West (Kattegat) and connected the Danish provinces of Halland and Bohuslen with eachother. So, if the Göteborg-region was cut away from Västergötaland and made a seperate province. This change would add a much larger and more accurate battleground for the many Dano-Swedish wars.
