i like the new reformation system, but i think it could use a tweak.
currently the game allows 3 centers of reformation per religion; on one hand the number seems appropriate, as a 4th center of reformation would probably paint the religious map different shades of blue, nevertheless there is an odd behavior of the AI i noticed in the games i played:
in all my games there will be two protestant centers of reformation very close to each other in two neighboring countries, such as denmark and sweden, sweden and norway, or sweden and finland.
i think this is a bit wasteful and doesn't serve the point, after the (usually german) first center of protestant reformation spawns the next two will spawn in scandinavia cutting england out (never became protestant in my games). at this point scotland will usually have a reformed center of reformation and the british isles will become reformed.
the problem is there also for the reformed centers of reformation, as two of them will spawn in germany and one in scotland, while, imho, one of them should spawn in france to simulate the french religious struggles.
so i am proposing two tweaks:
1st:
centers of reformation of the same religion should spawn in different regions (e.g. the french region vs. the german region vs. the british isles)
and/or: they cannot spawn within a certain distance of one another (if this is already the case the distance is probably too small)
and/or: cannot spawn in neighboring "X" countries (similar mechanic to the propagation of aggressive expansion?)
2nd:
there should be some the same number of catholic centers of faith (such as rome, and maybe paris to simulate the french conflict as above) that make conversion to a reformed religion more difficult (in all my games rome was either converted to protestant or reformed religion for some time, pretty strange imho), this should probably linked to relation to the pope at the start of the reformation (i.e. if rome has been taken and the pope is now in germany or in france...)
what do you think?
