Hey Forumites,

New member here wanting to get into Ck2. Needing a new desktop to do so. My current set up was used to play Ck1 back in the day. Do you see any issues with this proposed build?

Thanks! Screenshot_2019-06-17-13-21-13.png

Paradox makes many different games, and the requirements vary. Those are not the requirements for CK2. If you're running Linux the requirements are:
  • OS:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  • Processor:IntelR PentiumR IV 2.4 GHz or AMD 3500+
  • Memory:4 GB
  • Hard disk space:2 Gb
  • Video Card:ATI Radeon HD 6750 / NVIDIA GeForce 320 / NVIDIA GeForce

You can play this game on a potato. :D

Your example seems more meant for shooters than grand strategy - it's far more than you need for current Paradox games. In terms of the overclocked CPU - eh, if you want. But I believe that non-overclocked CPUs are both less loud (need less cooling) and last longer. So, will this system work and play CK2, Stellaris etc. smoothly: yes, definitely. Witcher 3 and so on as well. But if you have the chance to see the system in action in a store, take a moment to listen to it while it's actually got to work (3D benchmark) and see if the cooling sound would get on your nerves or not and ask if you can undo the overclocking in the BIOS to increase longevity. Hope that helps. :)

Evangeline, thank you for your thorough in-depth reply! Perhaps I'll downgrade the processor to the I5 9400F. It's the non over-clocked version of the 9th gen I5 and whilst I'm at it go back to air cooled. Save some money.

First person shooters interests me not, I prefer murder be more subversive.

Paradox makes many different games, and the requirements vary.

I said Paradox games. Because most who play one Paradox game, usually end up playing the others too.

Your example seems more meant for shooters than grand strategy - it's far more than you need for current Paradox games.

The recommendation is from Imperator: Rome.

I'm gonna assume that the next version of EU4 will have a similar requirement now when it goes 64-bit in the next patch.

It's better to assume that the same tech are gonna be in future Paradox game. Like CK3 if OP ever wanna get that one and it being made.

So better beware. Paradox has upped the demands in whats minimum required to play a game in a .1 version once.

How much are they charging you for this setup?
Check Jeff Bezos little online market for the same or equal hardware, I am fairly certain you would get it for at least 20% less

I only use Linux and play games on Linux. Paradox normally supports windows/mac/linux on all games. Some older like Victoria II is not available on Linux. Also some third-party-games - where paradox is only the publisher - are not available on Linux one notable example is Age of Wonders: Planetfall.
