The next update will feature a totally re-edited admirals list, with dozens of new leaders and pictures, accurate assignments in the OOBs and precise promotion and retirement dates.
As you can see, I slightly raised the skill level of some of them.

Also, 600+ accurate unit pictures for Italy, RSI, Democratic Italy, Soviet Italy and AOI

And, hopefully, a complete and playable 1866 scenario.

I wrote more flavour events, improved the text of the vanilla ones and added the Badoglio armistice announcement audio file to the Italian surrender event.
I hope to complete the 1866 scenario by the end of the month.

Looks good. Need any help?
I need help with the AI and the events of the 1866 scenario. Also it would be great if some native English speaker could proofread the texts.

1866? I speak English as my native language, so I can do that.
Here's the link to the events text: https://www.sendspace.com/file/k8pkit
You can see the preview of the 1866 scenario on the previous pages. I need to write the AI for Italy and Austria, and the text for the events. I also want to playtest a little, before the release.

I congratulate you on making a challenging Third Independence War battlescenario. It took me 10 tries to finally get an Italian Marginal Victory...
I feel that Italy should get some sort of small bonus advantage, just so the player can have a chance at getting a Total Victory. Perhaps Garibaldi's militia unit should be buffed upa a bit more?
In any case, thanks for the nice battlescenario!

I'd say... WOW!

I came here to find out how to do some minor modifications to Italy, only for myself. And I found this! Amazing :) :)
fter playing through Darkest Hour as Italy once, I had the feeling the country had been a little "mistreated". Of course, we didn't shine in IIWW. However, considering Badoglio and other not-so-brilliant people had been in charge for a long time, one may find explanations for such a poor showing. My point is that Italy could have performed differently and had itself some quite good commanders. So what I originally wanted to mod were mainly the attributes of some generals and the like.

On this regards, I must say disagree with keeping Graziani at 2 and making him "Old Guard" general. He was no genius and was pretty ruthless as well: but I've been reading about him and I think he was at least "good" at his job. I'd probably put him at 3, without the Old Guard attribute. If you need any help, I'd be happy to surf between commanders and give a feedback (though I'm no expert, mind you :D). Moreover, I thing I'd suggest to add would the decision - by the fascist government - to repeal monarchy and proclaim Italy a fascist republic early on: like in 1936 or so. In fact, I remember chatting with an old soldiers some 15 years ago: he told me when the Empire was proclaimed, everybody was expecting Mussolini to proclaim also the end of the monarchy. So, it seems, Germany had been suggesting to him for a long time. Plus, and this his historically accurate, within fascism there was Always plenty of opposition to monarchy and the alliance with convervative sectors of society. The existence of this internal opposition is proven by the later Italian Social Republic, which most of this radical fascists happily joined. So, even if a-historical, including such a decision ("to repeal the monarchy and proclaim a fascist republic") would make sense.

If this doesn't sound like bullshit, I may help writing the texts.. but I'm totally helpless in creating the event itself :D

Anyway, again many many compliments for the astonishing job!

I agree that some sort of fascist maximalism could be in. The RSI proved that deep within, fascism stayed the revolutionnary ideal it was. Mussolini's being rather faithfull to the crown has more to do with fearing the elite and the popularity of the monarchy (and church) rather than any affection. He was republican.

Hi there. Good work!
Is this compatible with stuff like communist Germany or Peace without victory?
Thank you. I never played Communist Germany mod but I think that I could easily edit the PI files to make it compatible. Same for other not-so-extensive mods like that (not Peace Without Victory). I only need the permission from the mods authors to use their work.

I congratulate you on making a challenging Third Independence War battlescenario. It took me 10 tries to finally get an Italian Marginal Victory...

Thanks for your feedback. The Italian Marginal Victory is indeed the historical outcome. Did you remember to put your division on offensive mode?

I must say disagree with keeping Graziani at 2 and making him "Old Guard" general. He was no genius and was pretty ruthless as well: but I've been reading about him and I think he was at least "good" at his job. I'd probably put him at 3, without the Old Guard attribute.
I arbitrarily decided to make "Old Guard" every leader who was promoted before 1900 for WW1 and before 1933 for WW2. Besides that, a skill 2 General/FIeld Marshal with Offensive Doctrine and Logistics Wizard traits is still a good leader.

If you need any help, I'd be happy to surf between commanders and give a feedback
It would be great. There might be some imprecisions, especially with the WW1 leaders.

Keep in mind that the Navy and most of the Army was loyal to the monarchy. And even after a disastrous civil war, almost half of the population still wanted to be ruled by the House of Savoy. I don't think that Mussolini or his successor could have got rid of the monarchy so easily and one-sidedly, even after a victorious war against the Allies (not in the DH timeframe, anyway). But if you have some kind of events chain in mind, I would be happy to read.

On a completely different matter, what do you guys think would have happened to the RSI if ww2 would have been fought longer, or by some miracle the Germans could make a cease-fire with their enemies. (I'm not asking about how this would be achieved or not, I'm asking about the RSI.)
Did they have any longer plans? Did they thought about the future?
What would have they done, if they reclaimed the entire Peninsula.

Fascist Republic and potentially a much stronger Italy reborn out of the ashes of the Monarchy-Fascist compromise?

My hypothesis is that it would have transformed into a militaristic oligarchy of crooked hierarchs subordinate to the Germans, with elements of socialism to appease the masses. The propaganda would present the Roman Republic as the State model (opposed to the Roman Empire of the previous decade), possibly with the election of two consuls every year (especially after the demise of Mussolini), with the goal of reuniting the Peninsula just like the Romans did. High internal dissent and instability (at least for the initial period), also among the party leaders (pro-German vs nationalists vs socialists, etc...), until a strong figure emerges (a Princeps?). All in all, the international situation would be very similar to West Germany/East Germany or present-day Korea (until the inevitable WW3).

If you like the idea, I can write an event in which Mussolini either dies or steps back and you can choose between two pro-German consuls (ex. Graziani and Pavolini, that is a soldier and a politician) and two nationalist consuls (ex. Borghese and Almirante/Romualdi/a member of the real life MSI party).

Hi. I always wanted to play Italy as RSI but I always run into problems with the modding. Actually I am not very proficient at all.
Would be so kind and patient to help an old wargamer like me.
I would like an event that will "transform" the Kingdom of Italy into the RSI and that I can launch when playing the 1933 scenario (or any scenario for that matter).
Another thing is which is the file listing the provinces (for DH) where you can mod the resources and who can I find a specific province? (the id no. that I get with showed does not seem to be the same as the one listed in the HoI province file.
I thank you very much.
PS. If I am not pushing my luck can I ask for an event "creating" Scandinavia (SWE + NOR + DEN) when playing Sweden?

Well, for the latter there is the mod34 mod. (Or similar name.) It starts in 1934 and you can form Scandinavia.
