You don't suppose there's a way that I can just disable retinues but keep the LoR decisions for ERE? I could definitely make do with that.
You could commend out every line saying has_dlc = "Legacy of Rome".

  • Sicilian culture will no longer spread via melting pot events to Greek provinces outside Italy
  • Removed the event giving pagans a bit of free piety
  • Fixed Shia muslims being unable to take the Sadaqah decision

Hi Meneth, excellent mod, became an instant favourite since i tried it.

In future releases would you consider adding some more requirements to form the kingdom of Brittany? Beside the fact that there shouldn't be a kingdom anymore (but I understand that otherwise it would be instantly annexed by France), AI almost always creates this kingdom in 10-20 years after the game starts. Maybe you could add some more counties or 1k of prestige or both as a condition.
For SWMH, you'll have to address your suggestion to the SWMH team.
In PB vanilla it doesn't tend to form much to my knowledge as one must hold two duchies to form a kingdom, while there's only one duchy in Brittany.
Another excellent and frequent update of this mod.:) The only thing I'll change back (to 80%) is the empire creation and usurpation condition.;)
Most empires are huge, so 75% is still a large number of provinces.
And when you've got 60% of an existing empire you rule it in all but name ;)
Thanks for the info, Cordell. We had a similar duke/king uncertainty for a long time here in Croatia. The title rex was used sparingly by the pope, so nobody is certain. For gameplay purposes it makes sense to leave the kingdom in, so that it's interesting to play. (I love playing it, by the way).

On a completely unrelated note: Meneth, would it be possible to make the decadence gain for characters depends on their traits, so lustful drunkards would increase dynastic decadence by much more that chaste scholars. Or is it so already?
It would be possible through events yes, but a major redesign of the decadence system would be needed. However, decadence is a major imbalancing factor, so I should probably do something to address it.

As an alternate idea, is it possible to just deny retinues to Patricians? That probably mucks with balance for them, but it also stops them from dieing with retinues.
There's no direct way, no. Though I suppose I could make their family palace give -10000 retinue cap or so, and that'd probably work.

How do factions work in PB? I've had a few rebel against me when all members, including the leader, had positive opinions of me. The leader had 60%.

I guess I've accustomed to CKii+ where the faction has a mood, which is easier to monitor and predict when they'll revolt.
Factions mostly work like in vanilla, with some tweaks.
For most factions people can join if they've got less than +50 opinion, and won't leave if they're already in unless they've got more than +75 opinion.
The system could probably use a redesign, but that won't be happening right now.

Not sure if this is only in my game or not or WAD ( hopefully not ) but as of version 1.21 every single Aztec and Mongol that come from any of the invasions always have the same house; either '' Of Aztec Empire '' for Aztecs or the '' oop Il Khanate '' for their invasions. Once they settle down and are landed, you still get Aztecs with '' of London '' and Mongols with '' oop Torshiz. '' Any way to fix this? As it is realllllllly out of place and makes the Aztec/Mongol invasion less interesting.
I don't believe there's anything I can do about how the game picks dynasty names for random characters.
What seems to happen is that they use the dynasty names defined in the dynasty files first, but once those run out they just pick based on what titles they hold, thus they all end up with oop Il Khanate.

Hey Meneth; I'm currently able to create the Empire of Rhos while only holding 62% of the provinces required, not 75%. I think the tag for creation vs. usurping might be messed up.
Strange. I'm getting the 75% requirement.
Report it as a bug to Paradox perhaps?

I've been mucking about with Shattered Balance, and I've written something that further customises the starting scenario. Specifically it gives you the option to leave religions and cultures alone, convert every ruler (and their vassals and court) to the religion and culture of their capital, or give every ruler (and their vassals and court) a random religion. You get the most out of the capital option if you like Zoroastrians :p. This is what it looks like so far, all of which works for me with both PB+SB and PB+SWMH+SB:

One issue though; there must be some better way of writing the randomise religion option. Right now it works instantly for the player, but it takes all the AI ruler about a week to get the events and convert. When I put any_independent_ruler = { letter_event = { id = 699931 } } into the option in the first event, it gives every ruler except your character the same random religion, and the same happened when I incorporated the random_list stuff into the first event (the latter result was predictable, but I thought the former should have worked...). Do you know how I could trigger the event (or even just the conversion effect) for all rulers at once without converting them all to the same religion?

It's usually slightly more patch-worked. There seem to be quite a few adjacent provinces of the same religion in this particular game.

I've been mucking about with Shattered Balance, and I've written something that further customises the starting scenario. Specifically it gives you the option to leave religions and cultures alone, convert every ruler (and their vassals and court) to the religion and culture of their capital, or give every ruler (and their vassals and court) a random religion. You get the most out of the capital option if you like Zoroastrians :p. This is what it looks like so far, all of which works for me with both PB+SB and PB+SWMH+SB:

I see, how unfortunate. It'll have to stay like it is then, which is fine for my purposes but other people might see it as sloppy writing. It's there if you want to use it anyway :). The "convert all rulers to their capital religion and culture" option is the one I'm using right now. More Norse and Zoroastrian rulers (and Bulgarians for that matter :p).

Until the next old patrician comes along...

It really seems an easy enough fix, I don't understand why Paradox don't hotfix it.

They've fixed it in their internal build according to the "ask paradox anything" stream yesterday. Hopefully there'll be a hotfix out pretty soon.

What about scripting it? I think it is CK2+ that has it scripted so that every Mongol invasion has the Borjigin dynasty at it's head but with random men. ( So not Batu, always some random Borjigin. ) Can't say about the Aztecs. Imo I'd much rather have a Borjigin every game than an Oop IlKhanate.
Sure, it'd be easy enough to do, but I don't think there's much point including the mongol events file just to make such a minor flavor change. I'll include it if anyone else cares as well though.
If you want to do it for your own game, you could do like this in the Ilkhanate event:
e_il-khanate = { holder_scope = { dynasty = 11100 }
And the same for the Golden Horde.

I definitely wouldn't make it an optional module for something so small. Definitely not. Was just a suggestion though as it's not needed or gamebreaking and can do it myself, though if others felt the same way I'd be glad to see it make it in.
If others want it in as well, I'll add it. I won't add another event file for a single person though :p

I'm trying to run this with SWMH but whenever I choose the "The Mongols" (1241) scenario or anything later I get a CTD. If I play SWMH or PB alone it works fine so I think it's a problem with the compatibility patch. Does anyone know how to solve this?
I'm fixing that next version.
To fix it in your own, go to PB + SWMH\history\provinces and find 554 - Chernigov. Comment out the line about Mongols.

Two issues really quick, not sure if they're your department or not (I play PB/SWMH/VIET):

Should Republics really be electing Incapable people?

The Immortal trait seems to be sneaking out randomly into the wild in my save game. I found this guy and one or two others with it.

Again, the first one may well be Vanilla, and the second one could be VIET?
You linked the same image twice.
I don't change anything about who can be elected currently.
Immortal shouldn't be possible in PB without Shattered Balance, but I'll code in an event to remove it when it shouldn't be there.

I tried Duke Robert of Apuila at the Stamford start date, and waited for the Empire's army to get crumbled by the Seljuks, however, after they did that they could summon up loads of troops that overpowered my own. Could the levy reinforcement rate be tweaked? I don't think the ERE should really be getting several 3k armies after losing three Emperor's in a row AND having it's army destroyed in battle a month before.

(Also sieges seem way too fast, maybe it's because I played TPATT before and the sieges there take a long time)
I've halved the reinforcement rate already, but it doesn't seem to have helped that much. It is quite possible the old reinforcement rate bug is still there and it is thus impossible to further lower it.
when im using this mod it gives half the mongol horde to a random mayor im not really sure why
Are you sure that's got something to do with the mod?

Yeah, static_modifiers in the common folder (PB+SWMH or PB depending on which you use). Find the family_palace section, and at the end add this:
retinuesize = -100000 #Disable retinues for patricians due to CTD bug
