@ Sleight of Hand: why would the Byzantine Emperor be able to destroy a title he doesn't hold? At best the title of HRE would become, what some of the Byzantophiles already think it is. Furthermore that also doesn't mean that the entity, which is or was the HRE should simply disappear. Maybe the Holy Roman Emperor would instead be regarded as a 'German' Emperor. Basically the HRE should then get another emperor title (tag), like e_germany or something.
Otherwise other possible other emperors within the (restored) Roman Empire should be relegated too.

Edit: such an effect IMHO would only be reasonable in a set up, where other creatable Orthodox and Catholic empires aren't normally creatable. So ironically in a set up I would prefer.
Still even then it would be a title, which rather than only through a one sided decision; IMHO should require a conflict (war) to make such a demotion a reality.

First impressions after my first Project Balance Game : As the name says, the game is much more balanced :) Started with Emirate of Derbent on VH, DOW and vassalize sheikh of Dwin. Then, I miserably pledged allegeance (?) to Alp Arslan ans start to make it crumble from the inside.

Kingdoms growth is much more historically accurate/plausible. War requirements (is war possible ?) is a good idea too. OTOH, province religious conversion shoud be clearly tweak since it only took me 2 years or 3 to convert Dwin to sunni (great but unrealistic IMO). And finally, I don't like the muslims/pagans CoA, I would have keep the vanilla system which looks like more clear to me.

Keep improving that way :)

Good thing 3.0.7 fixes that decision so one can actually restore the empire ;)
One of the reasons I'm (im)patiently waiting for 3.0.7. :p

I think you just got lucky on conversions. They normally take a while.

Project Balance is my favorite mod because it doesn't change the base game too much, but it fixes a lot of the balance issues. :)

Valid concerns, of course. I did mention in another thread a few weeks back the idea of replacing e_hre with k_germany once Rome is formed, but I don't know how to code that. If you know how, let me know and I'll try it.

Also, I'm not sure what the implications of such a move would be if k_germany already existed, but personally I do very much like the idea of the Emperor being relegated to the king of Germany if a proper Roman Emperor exists. It would mean he could keep his duke-tier vassals in Italy and Germany, but any king vassals he had (Bohemia, Lotharingia...) would be free to walk their own path.

That's my ideal scenario, but as I say, I have no idea how to do that, assuming it is possible.

Since you asked: It is spelled "allegiance".

Glad you like PB.
As to Dwin, that could simply be luck of the draw. A larger sample size is needed to draw any conclusions.
If you prefer the vanilla CoAs, you only need to change the line "has_coa_on_barony_only = yes" to = no in the file muslim.txt in PB\common\religions. The same can be done for Pagans (though that is set to = yes in vanilla as well), I think.

Oh and the changelog so far:

  • Characters of North Germanic, Altaic, Arabic, and Iranian cultures now dislike people of other cultures 40% less (E.G., foreigner penalty against different culture groups is 12 instead of 20)
  • Shia Islam is now a heresy of Sunni Islam
  • The Coptic Pope now holds the Bishopric of Alexandria
  • Fixed the county of Sarqihya not being Miaphysite
  • Fixed the Jewish religion having the wrong icon
  • Made almost all of the Shia Fatimid provinces Sunni
  • Harald Hardråde's claim on England is now weak
  • To change succession law one must have sufficient prestige. Counts need 100, dukes 250, kings 500, and emperors 1000
  • Fixed it being impossible to restore the Roman Empire
  • Fixed the county of Aprutium appearing to belong to Apulia before starting the campaign
  • The Scheme mission will now properly coerce characters to join your faction (previously it was not possible to get anyone who was in any faction to join)
  • Imperial Reconquest can now be used against Muslims
  • The Byzantine Empire can now use Imperial Reconquest again, but with strict requirements. The requirements can be seen in-game through the "Is War Possible?" decision
  • Project Balance's introduction event now triggers on day 1 rather than day 2. This also means that the religion setup is correct from day 1
  • Counts will now no longer start Independence factions unless their liege is a duke. They can still join it
  • The coastal republic CB can no longer be used against Muslims
  • Fixed a potential cause of CTDs (duplicate province history)

The Holy Roman Emperor was a proper Roman Emperor after his Imperial Coronation by the head of the Roman Catholic Church, the Pope. ;)

Personally if this would be implemented, I'd prefer e_germany, maybe name_tier = king. Especially if that decision would leave (or leaves) e_france, e_italy, e_spain and e_britannia untouched.
The Holy Roman Emperor would in fact be relegated to the status of king of the Romans aka king of the Germans (the former was preferred to underline their claim on the imperial (HRE) throne), however even in that capacity they were allowed to rule over the empire(realm)*. This would mean that the feudal relation with Bohemia, Lotharingia, Burgundy etc. does not change. So in that aspect they would be like other potentially formable empires, which are specified as name_tier = king. IMHO removing the imperial tier from the region is wrong, unless the creation of the reformed Roman Empire would mean that no other Christian empires can be created or also will be destroyed by that decision.

(*= in German and Dutch the empire term used is a more realm-empire (Reich/Rijk) one (not only the HRE, but also the Roman and Byzantine Empire), than a emperor-empire specific one (Kaiserreich/keizerrijk)).

Still e_germany or k_germany in this discussion partially face the same problem, so I hope I'll think of something.

Looking forward to 3.0.7. I'll start a new game, since 1) I'm getting kind of bored of my old game with a living-forever ruler, and 2) I want to see how the new changes work out. Particularly England. I wasn't anywhere near England in my current game but I felt bad they kept having nonsense faction wars over claimants.

Concerning the issue with the HRE, as Ruwaard just suggested, one way to get around this is to have it similarly to how PB has most empires - as kingdoms ruled by a king. So if there's a Byzantine Empire running around, the Empire of Germany actually is just Germany/Germania ruled by a king.

Following your discussion, I've coded another change for 3.0.7:
When the Roman Empire is reformed, the Holy Roman Empire becomes the German Realm instead. It is still empire-level, but its rulers will be called Kings

Changes:
  • Characters of North Germanic, Altaic, Arabic, and Iranian cultures now dislike people of other cultures 40% less (E.G., foreigner penalty against different culture groups is 12 instead of 20)
  • Shia Islam is now a heresy of Sunni Islam
  • The Coptic Pope now holds the Bishopric of Alexandria
  • Fixed the county of Sarqihya not becoming Miaphysite on day 2
  • Fixed the Jewish religion having the wrong icon
  • Made almost all of the Shia Fatimid provinces Sunni
  • Harald Hardråde's claim on England is now weak
  • To change succession law one must have sufficient prestige. Counts need 100, dukes 250, kings 500, and emperors 1000
  • Fixed the county of Aprutium appearing to belong to Apulia before starting the campaign
  • The Scheme mission will now properly coerce characters to join your faction (previously it was not possible to get anyone who was in any faction to join)
  • Imperial Reconquest can now be used against Muslims
  • The Byzantine Empire can now use Imperial Reconquest again, but with strict requirements. The requirements can be seen in-game through the "Is War Possible?" decision
  • Fixed it being impossible to restore the Roman Empire
  • When the Roman Empire is reformed, the Holy Roman Empire becomes the German Realm instead. It is still empire-level, but its rulers will be called Kings

Interesting little tidbit:
In the 6 days between 3.0.6 and .7, 167 posts were made in this thread. I do not believe this thread has ever seen a similar number of posts in such a short time-span.
The mod was also downloaded approximately 400 times in the same time-span.

I think it's because you've made a great mod. For me, going back to vanilla the first day of 1.07 was pretty painful. I especially missed your crown law changes. :)

Thank god I have free time tonight...Thanks Meneth...
Lucky people with free time to play games... :p
