Starting to work a bit on Bulgarian events now. The first event I'm making will eventually have a whole chain most likely, but currently what happens is that after Rum is form, the Byzantine Emperor gets an event telling him about Bulgarian unrest. Currently it causes the Bulgarian Empire to become a dejure title, covering this land in PB+SWMH:

Have you considered using those restrictions on elective factions on elective in general?

i.e., can't enact elective succession with crown authority above a low level, can't increase crown authority above a low level if elective.

Would be a nice way to nerf elective in a historically plausible and easy way.
I'll definitely consider it, though I wouldn't do it as severely as with the factions.
Perhaps restricting each crown authority law to the first two levels (three for levies) would work?

Keeping Elective Realms from instituting Revokation and Internal Peace is all that would keep me from using it. I don't even use Crown Levies or Levy Demesne laws.
You should increase Feudal and City obligations a step at least. Bumping it up that level only gives -5 opinion, so it is usually well worth it.

City gets moved to full tax and as high as obligations can go, of course :D

Feudal was never too sure about. -5 opinion might not be a bad option, but it wouldn't be a major loss to not have access to either.
The extra levies and tax is well worth the 5 opinion.

Quick question. If you start as Alexios Komnenos using the Alexiad bookmark, when should you expect to be able to use the "Imperial Reconquest" casus belli (if at all)?
Assuming I've read the changelog correctly, I think it should be 1092 since Rum appears to have been formed in 1077 but looking back at previous saves it appears I can use it from at least the end of 1087.

EDIT: it appears I can use the "Holy War" casus belli against the vassals of Rum when they are in the middle of a civil war. Not sure this is intended (although doesn't make much difference as I've got de jure casus belli and "Imperial Reconquest" casus belli).
The global flag isn't set in starts after Rum is formed, so you're not prevented from using Imperial Reconquest.
As to holy wars against revolters, I'm not sure if there's much point in disabling them.

The de jure Bulgaria Empire events seem a tad arbitrary in the sense that I dunno what the exact connection between losing Rum and the Bulgarian Empire are, other than the loss of central Anatolia weakening and causing instability in the ERE, but I suppose it's really the only way to do it for now. Hopefully with the Bulgarian counts I'm whipping up (sometime... soon...) we might see a bit of rumblin' here and there on the northern borders of the Empire.

Out of curiosity, when on average does 1.092's crash spam start getting real bad for you with PB?
If the Byzantines had never lost Anatolia, they'd never have been weak enough for the Bulgarians to gain independence. Thus it makes quite a bit of sense.

For me the crash spam often starts around the late 12th century or early 13th century. I've had to abandon some test games because they crash within a few years of loading the save.

Not sure if this is a PB or VIET bug (or a vanilla design), but I had a plot to revoke county (playing as Robert of Puglia, revoking the county of Gravina) when the count rebelled against me for a faction war. I was then given the option to enact my plot and I think it succeeded by default because the count couldn't declare war again, so I got the county and instant peace in the faction war to boot.
Sounds like it probably is a vanilla bug unless VIET has made any changes to that plot. PB doesn't touch it.

Hey Meneth, sorry to be such a PITA with my latest playthrough, but I noticed something annoying. I'm doing PB/SWMH/VIET and I started as Duke of Sachsen. I formed the Kingdom-tier Sachsen title, but because I'm vassal to the Emperor, I can't set Crown Laws. Because I can't set crown laws, I can't get "Kings Peace" so I can invade those annoying Pagans on my eastern border. I even abandoned my inner-Empire fighting to advocate for Emperor's Peace, but apparently my Imperial liege having Emperor's Peace won't allow me to invade Pagans. Is there a work-around to this, or does Holy Warring pagans mean I have to revolt against the HRE (not necessarily a deal-breaker, but it wasn't something I was planning to do until later)?

I have a second Kingdom title (Jerusalem) which I put under "King's Peace", but that didn't solve it, and neither did making Jerusalem my primary title.
You should probably declare independence, yeah. I don't think HRE vassals running around doing holy wars against pagans makes all that much sense.

Quick question, playing as the Byzantines using the Alexiad start date I notice that the empire still has all of it's de jure borders except Cilicia. Is this WAD? I thought Iconium and Armenia were supposed to be removed from the empire. I'm using VIET and SWMH if that makes a difference.

Love the mod! Keep up the good work.
I haven't applied any of the event outcomes from the Rum event chain to later start dates.

Playing v3.1.19 only (SoI & LoR installed & active, still don't have The Republic yet). No other mods installed.
Started a new game from The Alexiad bookmark as the aforementioned Basileus. Try to declare war on the Sultan of Rum, no "Imperial Reconquest" casus belli available.

Checking my save games from the game I started a couple of days ago. 27th August 1086 still no "Imperial Reconquest" casus belli while 10th December 1087 & onward it is available.
History tab says the Sultanate of Rum was formed on 1st January 1077 so it seems to be blocked for at least the first 10 years.

BTW I have no problem with this as I don't agree with the C.B. anyway (game is easy enough as it is without stuff like this making it even easier) just found it weird when it showed up.
I kind of agree with you on the holy war C.B. since the "Imperial Reconquest" one is way more powerful if the player wants to (ab)use it.
Maybe I should just disable Imperial Reconquest against enemies who you'd have a Holy War CB against.
You should be getting the Imperial Reconquest CB as long as you meet the requirements though (available in "is war possible").

Imperial Reconquest is much better than Holy War, as neighbors won't dogpile you. I do have a bug/exploit to report with it, though. Normally, when you take a character's last county, they automatically get one from their vassals. If you declare an Imperial Reconquest on a character and victory gives you all their counties, their ducal and higher titles will all be destroyed. I popped a huge Fatimid blob in one war with that trick by taking Cairo.
Definitely a vanilla thing. Not sure what would cause it though.

Are there known issues running this mod on a mac? I'm getting an insta-crash as soon as I press start in the launcher with any combination of the suggested mods in the first post. I have redownloaded/reinstalled etc...
As I have no way to test it on Mac there may well be issues, I'm afraid.

Meneth, is it possible to disable the HRE being dissolved when Byzantium turns into Rome? The ERE already claimed to be the only Rome, I doubt just because of recent successes the HRE would throw in the towel when they heard "OK, now we're REALLY serious, we're the only Rome".
They're supposed to just become e_germany instead.
