Really the HRE independence thing really needs to be looked at every game within a couple years 1/3 of the HRE gets independence from the Emperor caving to them it ruins trying to play as the Hapsburgs. PB+SWMH

You probably need to wait 10 years, as the mechanics for the Alexiad seem to kick-in in starts after that date.

Really appreciate your answer! Thanks!

But I have questions, still.

My status : ERE emperor, have right traits for Imperial Reconquest CB and Holy war[not slothful, delightful, etc.], and
"Is war possible check decision" said I can holy war and non-dejure holy war.

(1) You mean, I can start Imperial Reconquest war against Rum at least 1132, because the Alexiad will kick-in that date?
Hm. In my current situation, I can use Imperial Reconquest CB against the duke of Sicilia who occupied Epirus.
I'm so confused.

(2) Another thing. When I was a duke of Achaia, I used Holywar CB against Muslim ruler of Sicilia island.
Now, I'm a Emperor of ERE. But I can't find any Muslim who I can use Holy war CB.
PB Changelog said, Holy war CB can be used against Muslim across the sea if they are in two sea zones.
So that means, I should have CB against tunis's muslm, right?
or is there something I missed?

(3) I know It is a stupid question, but, where have Religious Reconquest CB gone?
When I used previous version(3.2.27), I had fun with that CB, but now, I can't find that.
It's a related problem with (2)?

This mod is really tormenting me. Despite some bugs and frequent changes, I can't hands off from this mod.
It is the most great mod I've experienced.

Basically when you start at the earlier date for the Alexiad Bookmark, The sultunate of Rum can't be attacked for at least 10 years. I've seen Meneth post that the mechanic behind that probably applies to later dates as well, unfortunately. So if you started in 1132, you'll need to wait until 1142.

(2) Another thing. When I was a duke of Achaia, I used Holywar CB against Muslim ruler of Sicilia island.

Is there a Holy war cooldown modifier on your character?

I believe Meneth split the mechanics for holy war up recently and were renamed. Some of those you can only see when on the diplomacy map when you select a target and you can't declare because you don't meet the requirements, which are listed if you hover over the declare button. I suppose that's possible.

Hopefully that helps!

(1) But my game was started at 1066. And Formation of Rum was in 1070s!

(2) Nope. I haven't a cooldown modifier. The modifier All I have is a decayed theme system modifier.

(3) I will check that when I go back to my home.

anyway, thank you for your reply!

I'm not really sure where to put this, because I don't know the cause - I'm running the latest version of SWMH, PB (and PB + SWMH), and VIET (assets, traits, and events). Everything works fine but for one small detail - when I click the button to view de jure kingdoms on the map, the game crashes to desktop. This doesn't happen for the de jure duchy button or the de jure empire button or anything else - just the de jure kingdom button.

My assumption is that this is a PB-related issue because PB reworks the de jure kingdoms, but I suppose it could also be a map issue related to SWMH.
PB doesn't touch the dejure map in PB+SWMH. I'd recommend deleting your SWMH folder, redownloading, and reinstalling it.

..is mostly true, though "Emperor of All Spain" was used for a decent stretch in the early/high MA. It seems at least reasonable that a Christian ruler who actually ruled the PB Spanish Empire might well have called himself Emperor; Alfonso VII "el Emperador" gave himself that title with a lot less land than that.
And no one recognized the claim. So the entire event gives more credence to the idea that empires are special.

would it be possible to remove dejure kingdom drift and only do it through events? I'm thinking places like Portugal, Castile, France, Naples, and Anatolia. also kingdoms for the republics to keep them from being taken over by the HRE so much. it would make a lot more sense than the current system. also that problem with independence factions could be addressed by making upper Italy and Burgundy dejure HRE. PB+SWMH
Possible? Yes. Planned? No.

Sorry if this has been explained before (hard to go through 432 pages). I just started playing as Navarra, but I can't start a holy war with the hmm... whateveryads to the southeast. The war declaration says 'no valid casus belli', I'm catholic and they're muslims, isn't that casus belli enough? (in the 'is war possible?' it shows green to declare non de-jure holy wars)

PB+SWMH have clearly problems with Rum. (I'm using Project Balance v3.2.28 and SWMH 2.811)
I confirmed myself.

Like I said at #8623, I can't get Imperial and religious reconquest CBs against Rum, even after decades.

1. A little while ago, I got a Imperial Reconquest CB in Rum's territory.
How? because Rum conquered the duchy of Taron.
And Taron is not a de jure duchy of Rum.

That means, Imperial reconquest CB doesn't include Rum's de jure.

So I checked a file in PB + SWMH folder. (PB+SWMH\common\cb_types)

can_use_title = {
OR = {
de_jure_liege_or_above = k_byzantium
de_jure_liege_or_above = k_anatolia
de_jure_liege_or_above = k_nikaea
de_jure_liege_or_above = k_epirus

In my opinion, [de_jure_liege_or_above = k_rum] should be included.
Anyway, after I had inserted that line, It worked properly.

2. I think that holy war CB has a similar problem but It is so complicated to understand a cb document.(I mean, a document in cb_types folder)

Anyway, For test, I granted independence to Iconoclast duke of Achaia. After that, I got a Imperial and religious reconquest CB against him.
That means religious reconquest CB is working.

But still, I can't use religious reconquest CB against Rum.

That's intended, yeah. It's a minor flavor thing; no other (Christian) title than the HRE or ERE could claim to be an empire since that meant successor to Rome.

Ah... I understand. Is it however possible to modify them like vanilla way? I think that alternative history has its own fun to play.

Yeah, that's pretty simple.
Go to common\landed_titles in the PB folder.
Open the file for the emperor you want to modify.
Remove the line "name_tier = king".
Save the file and start the game.

Running the latest version, playing as the King of Burgundy. Just created the Kingdom of Aragon, and a little bit later I'm told I can create a titular, apparently empire-level title of Germania (with a crest similar to HRE). What's this? A bit confused because I only have nine provinces that are de jure HRE (all in the Lotharingia-de jure area).

In regards to retinue maintenance is it impossible to make cultural variants require constant maintenance? It feels like cheating to use them.

In the defines there is a "RETINUE_CONSTANT_COST", does anyone know why it doesn't apply to the cultural troops?

Messed up flags

HI all -

I just fired up Project Balance for the first time, and I have some messed up flags. Primarily in the region of Ethiopia.

This happens with no other mods but PB selected. I deleted the flag cache to no avail. The flag file that gets rebuilt includes the messed up flags (see attachment). Only flagfiles_0 has this problem; flagfiles 1 and 2 are ok.

No problems with vanilla or CK2+

FWIW, I am running on OS X so I don't have a user dir.

I still need to take a good, full look through this entire bboard post, and I wasn't sure where else to post this but...in my game I'm getting a thing where Pagans have the ability to repeatedly declare the same war against me over and over again, even after they surrender. Is this working as intended?

I'm not talking about multiple different pagan Kingdoms, I'm talking about a single Pagan Kingdom declaring a reconquest on me, losing, then immediately (within weeks) declaring the same war again (2nd Reconquest), with no visible loss as far as I can see.

would it be possible to remove dejure kingdom drift and only do it through events? I'm thinking places like Portugal, Castile, France, Naples, and Anatolia. also kingdoms for the republics to keep them from being taken over by the HRE so much. it would make a lot more sense than the current system. also that problem with independence factions could be addressed by making upper Italy and Burgundy dejure HRE. PB+SWMH

Regarding the de jure drift, it is possible to make a slight change in the defines.lua (in this case of this mod), basically change a 1 to a zero.

It reads:

Code:
ALLOW_DE_JURE_ASSIMILATION_ANYWHERE = 1, -- If set to 0, will only assimilate duchy titles which contain the assimilating Kingdom's capital or border existing de jure land of that title

you could change it to:

Code:
ALLOW_DE_JURE_ASSIMILATION_ANYWHERE = 0, -- If set to 0, will only assimilate duchy titles which contain the assimilating Kingdom's capital or border existing de jure land of that title

, there will still be some de jure drift, but only as indicated. (IMO a decent compromise.)

Really the HRE independence thing really needs to be looked at every game within a couple years 1/3 of the HRE gets independence from the Emperor caving to them it ruins trying to play as the Hapsburgs. PB+SWMH

I guess you mean this bit?
Code:
 (...)
if = {
            limit = {
                FROM = { has_landed_title = e_hre }
            }
            FROM = {
                any_vassal = {
                    limit = {
                        NOT = {
                            any_realm_title = { de_jure_liege_or_above = e_hre }
                        }
                    }
                    set_defacto_liege = THIS
                }
            }
        }

(...)

Personally instead of removing it, I tend to add this.

Code:
(...)

if = {
            limit = {
                FROM = { has_landed_title = e_hre }
            }
            FROM = {
                any_vassal = {
                    limit = {
                        NOT = {
                            OR = {
                                any_realm_title = { de_jure_liege_or_above = e_hre }
                                any_neighbor_province = {
                                    owner = {
                                        top_liege = {
                                            has_landed_title = e_hre
                                        }
                                    }
                                }
                            }
                        }
                    }
                    set_defacto_liege = THIS
                }

(...)

A while back I too gave my opinion on this matter, but as Meneth recently wrote that won't be changed. However if it bothers you too much, you could remove or edit it, in a more personalized version. Anyway these are just my suggestions, since I too aren't a fan of that mechanism for one specific title; however it is Meneth's mod and Meneth's view on this matter is different. In fact this might be the one rare element of this mod I'm particular fond of.

Is it a Religious Reconquest? There have been problems with that CB recently, but they should all be fixed in the latest version. I've been pestering Meneth about it for weeks, and it's fixed in the newest version. Download that and you should be fine.

HI all -

.

Following up on my own post: on a hunch that there might be something wrong with the TGA file information, I opened the TGA file for a flag and re-saved it from Photoshop. CK2 then generated the correct flag! So I used a Photoshop action to open and re-save every TGA file in the PB folder. All flags are now correct!

Perhaps this has something to do with how OS X processes the TGA files vs Windows?
