Will do. I agree it's a much better idea than throwing everything into landed_titles.

Yes. My landed_titles file is very big with all the new counties in my map mod... And I want to make this for every barony in so many languages as possible... This would make me landed_titltes more then three times (or more?) bigger (and slower to work with it).

If you are fucking around with republics, might I suggest adding Amalfi, Ragusa, Gaeta, Ancona, and Pisa as playable Republics?

Isn't Pisa already playable? :p
But the more Republics the better. Some of those might be a bit difficult to add and/or outside of PB's scope as they'll either require map changes or titular Republics that don't hold an actual county.

Hmm. I'll leave South/North German in the culture file in order to ensure save-game compatibility until the next patch that breaks save-game compatibility (I.E., 3.2.0).

The councilor ambitions now require a minimum of 10 points in the relevant skill

This doesn't appear to be working. I'm seeing characters with less than 10 in a skill with the ambition to hold the post that skill relates to even though they have a higher stat in another skill which is over 10.

I'm guessing this is hardcoded, but is there a way to let Merchant Republics change their Capitols in any way?

It feels silly leading the Serene Republic of Sweden from Gotland.
I have absolutely no idea :)

I guess so. Here's a secret: I rarely actually 'play' the game.

But the more Republics the better. Some of those might be a bit difficult to add and/or outside of PB's scope as they'll either require map changes or titular Republics that don't hold an actual county.

Ancona is in game as a county, and should be a republic. Split is Ragusa, and should be a republic under the Croatian crown. (Probably should call it Dubrovnik instead of Split, which is attested to in the historical record.) I doubt Gaeta will make it, since it would require some modding to the map between Capua and Rome, or a titular title. Someone made an Amalfi mod, which I think could be integrated (and maybe duplicated for Gaeta?).

Of these, Amalfi and Ragusa should honestly be in. Especially Ragusa. The proximity to the oak-rich Garganos meant that they had the resource capital to outbid the Venetians for east Adriatic trade and they existed in some form or another until 1808. Amalfi was a powerhouse until the Normans took them out of the game in the 1130s. On a more province-laden map, you could add Noli as a possible (maybe titular) Republic from the mid 1200s. Novgorod and Pksov shouldn't be Republics until the mid 1200s. Siena should start a theocracy and hopefully convert to a Republic mid-1200s. Okay. I think I should stop now.

It's probably disabled because otherwise people would be changing their capital to inland provinces, leading to an instant game over.

I'm guessing it has more to do with the Patrician holdings technically being located "in" your capitol, and the headaches for trying to move/reestablish those, on a second look. On the island I stay, I suppose.

I'm guessing it has more to do with the Patrician holdings technically being located "in" your capitol, and the headaches for trying to move/reestablish those, on a second look. On the island I stay, I suppose.
No, family palaces don't exist on the map. If you have a Patrician holding no other titles, anyone in his court is listed as being in an unknown location.

Assuming you're using 3.1 or above, that CB should be pretty much exactly like vanilla, so I have no idea what's causing the issue.

Really? Clicking my "Patrician" holding on the sidebar redirects to my capitol.
It does that because it has no fixed location on the map. If you own any other title, its capital is treated as the family palace location. If you're Patrician without holdings, like the Geatish Gildehusen in 1066, it jumps to your liege's location in Gotland.
The moment you manage to get a city or county holding, it jumps to there if you click your family palace. That does not mean your family dismantled the palace and moved it brick by brick to another place :D

Yep I'm running 3.1.2.
It works in vanilla 1.09 as I did the exact same thing the other day before I started my PB game.

I guess so. Here's a secret: I rarely actually 'play' the game.

Though I do have occasional regular games in order to see if there's anything I should change. Haven't had time for that since 1.08 though-

Same here. Haven't "played" for longer than a decade or two since I've really started work on VIET. ALthough I did have an opportunity to for a bit during winter break. So maybe that doesn't count. I do want to play a nice game of VIET soon. Well, PB + VIET.


Ancona is in game as a county, and should be a republic. Split is Ragusa, and should be a republic under the Croatian crown. (Probably should call it Dubrovnik instead of Split, which is attested to in the historical record.) I doubt Gaeta will make it, since it would require some modding to the map between Capua and Rome, or a titular title. Someone made an Amalfi mod, which I think could be integrated (and maybe duplicated for Gaeta?).

Of these, Amalfi and Ragusa should honestly be in. Especially Ragusa. The proximity to the oak-rich Garganos meant that they had the resource capital to outbid the Venetians for east Adriatic trade and they existed in some form or another until 1808. Amalfi was a powerhouse until the Normans took them out of the game in the 1130s. On a more province-laden map, you could add Noli as a possible (maybe titular) Republic from the mid 1200s. Novgorod and Pksov shouldn't be Republics until the mid 1200s. Siena should start a theocracy and hopefully convert to a Republic mid-1200s. Okay. I think I should stop now.

The problem with Amalfi (and Gaeta, and Trapani, and a few others) is that either you'd have to remove existing counties and duchies (Salerno in Amalfi's case), or make titular duchies that don't actually hold their own county but hold various barony-level titles in the map, which would be really confusing and in my opinion pointless - I think that's the solution the Amalfi mod is going towards, which I frankly would not prefer (well, that's just me).

But you are right about how there's so many possible Republics. Originally I thought I was only going to add two for VIET (Iceland and Yemen). Now I will minimally be adding at least eight with historical or semi-historical justifications (Iceland, Yemen, Hormuz, Somalia, Ragusa, Ancona, Hamburg, and Novgorod), and almost certainly even more as I learn more and folks make more Republic mods I can steal integrate. Frankly, I'm a little sad that they didn't just bother to put in some of these in vanilla to begin with - they could have just focused on the five big ones, sure, but there's plenty possible, and it's a good thing that PB will add some of this (and my silly little VIET mod too, and almost certainly many other mods as well)
