Some changes to gender laws coming next version:

  • Changing gender law now requires a certain level of prestige (500 for Agnatic and Agnatic-Cognatic, 1000 for True Cognatic). The prestige is not lost
  • Added Enatic-Cognatic and Enatic succession with some very high restrictions. The AI will never use either
  • It is no longer possible to move directly from Agnatic to True Cognatic; succession law has to be changed in steps: Agnatic -> Agnatic-Cognatic -> True Cognatic -> Enatic-Cognatic -> Enatic

I think plots are broken in Beta, I've been trying to kill someone in 867 start have +300% of plot power and every attempt so far has failed
I don't change those events in any way. You might just have terrible luck.

So here's the cultural buildings changes I made if anyone wants to look at/use them.

Basically, I took the vanilla cultural buildings maintenance levels and multiplied them by 1.5, as that matches the maintenance increases in PB for everything but light infantry and knights. I then changed knights maintenance from 8 to 6 in defines.lua to bring them in line with the other maintenance levels, leaving light infantry at 1.

The troop types match PB, but adjusted numbers to meet the maintenance costs I laid out. Added bonuses to buildings that didn't have them (the bonuses are somewhat derived from vanilla, and then modified to be unique in cases where multiple cultures had the same troop type and bonus), and removed a few instances where cultural buildings were subtracting other troop types (I can appreciate the balance/army composition reasons for this, but it just didn't seem "fun").

End result is heavy infantry, pikemen, horse archers, and heavy cavalry cultural buildings having slightly lower numbers, while archers, light cavalry, and light infantry have slightly higher numbers when compared to PB. Lower or higher, the cultural levies are all bonused as well. The total levy (in maintenance cost) provided by the cultural buildings at max level is slightly lower than a max level barracks.

Don't forget to change knights maintenance from 8 to 6 in defines if you use it. It shouldn't really make a big difference, but it seemed neater this way.

Edit: To use them in PB, unzip the file and move it into mod\ProjectBalance\common\buildings. You may want to backup the PB cultural buildings file instead of overwriting it so you can go back to the original values.
I do want knights to be particularly expensive, as historically they were ;)

I'll take a look at what you've done to the buildings.

Let me know if you want me to change the bonuses to match those applied to the SWMH retinues. They're a bit less diverse than mine but the argument can be made for things being neater by matching up when possible.
Yeah, I might make them match up, but it doesn't really make much of a difference; in practice you won't notice much difference between 0.1 offensive and 0.1 defensive.

BTW, what total maintenance amounts did you aim for for each stage?

I would've taken this to a different subforum, but since I'm playing PB + SWMH I thought it would be more appropriate here.

I'm currently playing as Eire with England under the belt, but I'm having difficulty getting title revocation passed in England. All conditions are met, Elective Monarchy, yet the option is locked. Any advice?

Then, I have a question. Why ist it that the armenian culture has no culture buildings? They were famous for they cavalry, so byzantine cataphracts would fit?
With my little understanding of CK2-Modding, I think I could do it myself. But is there a reason for them not having an culture building?

Thanks for reporting; I believe I never switched the Greek culture building over to the Byzantine culture group when vanilla did. I'll fix it next version.

Tried starting out on the new patch with Ashkenazi Jewish Patrician in Hamburg and I noticed that I cannot marry! Even if trying to arrange marriage with own courtier the Send button just stays greyed out
How marriage works is hardcoded, so there's nothing I can do about it I'm afraid.

The AI definitely uses Planned Invasions. I held the Emperor of Scandinavia title. The King of Norway kicked off a Planned Invasion of England (Wessex) about 5 years after I became Emperor and he became King (I was curious about whether the plan started before or after I became Emperor, so I looked at title history).

As a player, it's horrifying that your vassal could suddenly get another Kingdom (or a large portion thereof). On the other hand, it also meant that I had to seriously worry about him rebelling. I was considering taking steps to get him to fail the invasion (I was going to start by assassinating him to destroy the Invasion troops), but he white peaced out (probably because he was facing a substantial vassal rebellion).
Hopefully the diplomacy action to prepare an invasion actually checks if the CB is valid, because if not I can't really restrict it..

I can't seem to play PB with SWMH now. Whenever I load up the game, the entire map is a wasteland except for Britanny and some scandinavian areas.
It's working fine for me.
Make sure you've got PB, PB+SWMH, and SWMH all enabled.
Are you running any mods beyond those three?

I've found a slight issue. It's not really negatively effecting anything, it's just...decidedly odd. Every nation in the world is apparently hostile towards Bo Bo's Host. And has been for the past 30 years or so. Due to their war on Pirates. I'm honestly more bemused than anything.

Meneth is there a way i can send you my syrian save to have a look at and figure out what's wrong? it just freezes after playing one day and i don't have a recent autosave either, the previous save is from over a hundred years prior
Try disbanding some retinues of a random guy; I've found that that usually solves consistent crashes.

The game crashes when unpausing to get the days moving forward.
What combination of mods? I'm not experiencing it with PB+SWMH+ARKO+NBRT+.
I assume you've installed the 1.102 patch? If not, you should do so.

I have newest patch and I have PB+SWMH+ARKO, played it two days ago and everything was just fine. Did update the mods when the problem first arised, didn't help sadly.

Is there a special way to update mods or is it just Copy-Past-Replace the files? Or must i delete the old mods first or something like that before replacing with newer versions?
You should always delete the old version before installing the new.

Oh and make sure you've deleted the religions folder from ARKO.

In My Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II, your save folder is in ProjectBalance_Some what more historic (NV)\save games.
Your saves may somehow have ended up somewhere else in the CKII temp folder, I suppose.

94 years, realm size 363, formed the Fylkirate and win every war without trying. I did benefit a bit from vassals using the invasion CB, but it doesn't account for that many of my holdings, so I don't think changing that alone will change much. This particular game has to be abandoned, but is there anything I can do to turn up the challenge level for the future?

(I'm worried I've gotten too good at CK2 in general. And yes, starting as a count makes the climb to the top take longer, but it doesn't make it that much harder to hold said top position.)
The main thing to make the game more challenging is to roleplay more; there's limits to what I can do.
If there's any specific CB you felt were too powerful though, please do tell.

I have that folder but no saved games in it.

I do have the save games in a map called "ProjectBalance_Some what more historic (NV)_ArmoiriesArkoPack". Tried to copy the save games from that folder to the other one. The game then found the saved files but it still crashed when trying to start playing.
When are these saves from? If they're from an earlier version of SWMH they probably won't work, and I/Paradox cannot guarantee that saves from before 1.102 work.

On second thought, holy warring for own religion provinces against heretics after a religious reformation did help me a fair bit, in addition to the invasion CB. I'm not sure changing it alone would make it a challenge, but it might be something to look into weakening - I was able to snap up a lot of provinces quickly from Old Norse rulers.
Thanks, might have to do something about it, yeah. Might make an exception for attacking unreformed versions of your religion.

I think I may have found a strange, minor bug with PB and the ruler designer. When using PB, the ruler designer refuses to show middle-aged portraits. Its shows the young portraits instead. The problem goes away again when reverting to vanilla.
I also had a crash when returning to the main menu after playing as a ruler-designed character. I don't know if it is related, since I had it only one time out of the three I tried, but the last time I had this crash it was also related to the ruler designer.
It's showing for me, though note it happens at age 32 rather than 30 (a change carried over from VIET at some point, I think).

Is it WAD that the muslim county conquest CB doesn't have any requirement between muslims? My slow content craven shy paranoid humble count (what a winner, huh...) has become king in about 40 years of warmongering...
I might've removed too many requirements when I was removing outdated stuff, yeah.
