I'm having the funniest game at the moment, where the queen of Aquintine is Frankish and the king of France is Occitian. Also Burgundy is English and Ireland is mostly German.

BTW, how fast is cultural conversion compared to vanilla?
Culture conversion takes about 50% longer unless the province is coastal (multiplies MTTH by 0.75) or completely isolated from provinces of its own culture (multiplies MTTH by 0.4).

In my recent PB, SWMH, PB + SWMH and VIET events game, I noticed something that (to be frank) annoys me, Welf Welf constantly renames his dynasty. Somehow the game doesn't recognize that he as a in game bastard already did so by adopting Welf instead of d'Este.
It might be a vanilla issue and be related with the recent patches.
Probably not something I can do anything about.

Does the AI ever grant independence? Sweden lost a bunch of territories and I can't tell why - there's no recent lost war for independence or anything.
He might've given into an independence faction without a war.

This is a nice improvement. :)

Does the chance of randomly being born with congenital traits impact generated characters? (e.g. decisions to invite "a noble", or characters generated directly as holders of baronies)
I actually have no idea, sorry.

Just had something odd come up in my Trondelag game. I had prepare invasion'ed Mercia when my king died in battle right at the end of the war. After he died the special event troops disappeared ( thats WAD i assume) but one of the charaters that spawned with it became my prisoner. Now the troops despawning i assume is designed but i don't believe the main general I gained is meant to be imprisoned just because the king went off and got himself killed.
Nothing I can do about what happens to the characters when the units disband, I'm afraid. Probably a vanilla bug.

I mean were historic culture shifts across the sea not quite limited? I have a hard time coming up with examples of anyone moving further than two sea zones aside from the Norse, and beyond even one was fairly rare. Allow 2 zones and all historical Mediterranean movements are possible, 3 and the Norse are as well. I think 2 would be optimal.
The Norse. The Normans to some extent (creating Sicilian). Germans in the Crimea, even. Distance shouldn't prevent it, as historically cultures did end up travelling quite far.
Celtic streches from Navarra to Scotland after all.

Just had another bug in the same game. I was raiding a province in Scotland when i had the option to capture the owners family when i selected it insted of imprisoning them i imprisoned myself. Is it possible that its just a conflict since this game was started a version ago and switching versions and updating the patch may have caused it ? If so ill just restart the game and see if the problem pops up again.
It's unlikely as no other mod should be touching those files. It's possible of course, but unlikely.

Maybe. But then you might as well dispense with requiring ports altogether, there is nothing theoretically stopping any ruler from settling an inland province, except it just pretty much never happened. Like with long-distance settlements, almost never occurred historically.

Persians settling in Antioch is no more likely than having them settle Syria or any province in the Middle East regardless of neighboring Persians, it just would take an inordinate amount of effort to bring about and as such is unrealistic. The majority culture isn't just upper nobility, it's the entire local elite, it means the previous majority has been reduced to the point where they won't ever make a comeback without outside interference. There are very few historical examples of any truly long-distance settling yet it happens constantly in the game, and for some the distance is so immense it defies belief.
Culture is upper + middle class.
Upper class is easily enough change. Middle class is more difficult.
But anywhere with significant trade can over time be culture converted.

I found some serious problems in my game. First thing: When selecting Iceland in 867, it gives the message 'unable to play as republics', despite Island not showing up as a republic and me having the republics dlc.
The second thing is that all of west Africa has disappeared. Or rather, Africa is still there, but there are no characters and the region is not selectable.

I tried copying over the history/titles map from 3.2.19. That fixed the Africa problem, but Iceland was still unplayable.

edit: I was using no other mods except PB
Iceland is unplayable as merchant republics need a duchy title, and none exists in 867.
West Africa starts out blank until the campaign starts in 867, as researching borders and creating random character wouldn't be worth the effort when the game can just generate characters when it starts.

I see. But this makes Iceland and West Africa unplayable in 867. Thats a pity :(
Why is Iceland a merchant republic btw? In Iceland we did have the Þjóðveldið (dont know the english name), but it did not really start until 930.
I would, for obvious reasons, really like to play as a count of Iceland.
Iceland is a merchant republic after 1066.
In 867 they're just independent burghers, as open elective seems more accurate than any sort of Feudal system.

You can still play in West Africa by character switching after campaign start; just open the console and write "play <characterid>". You can find the character ID by hovering over the character you want to play.

But couldn't you just at least include the Ghana kingdom/duchy (since most of it's provinces remain more or less in the reworked map of PB) and also from various sources that I've read (not just Wikipedia >_> ) the empire of Ghana had existed since the 8th or 9th century, besides Ghana is included in vanilla 867 start (I know that part of the map is very much redone completely in PB but still I don't see why not include at least that kingdom given there's no need for much research since you have a guide in the vanilla files)

If you think it could destabilize the region and blob quickly then don't make it a kingdom but a petty kingdom(duchy).

Then again this is merely a suggestion to have a more historically correct setting.
There's really only two good choices: Leaving it as it is, or adding all the main realms for 867, anything inbetween would lead to silly results.

What files would I need to modify?
You'd have to make the cities into castles, which can be done in the history files.

Meneth i have a small request. Is it possible to somehow code it so the ai pagans are more likely to take concubines either thru raiding or courtiers? In my current trondelag game the only pagan ruler who has even a single concubine is myself and I noticed that 3 large kingdoms are about to have a dynasty change due to no heir.
Not without forcing them via event.

How can I get this to work on a mac?

Whenever I select it in the launcher, and then press play the game immediately quits and sends an error report.
From the OP: If you're playing on OS X, open the .mod file in a text editor and remove the user_dir line.

Having played nearly a century as Denmark, I strongly recommend eliminating the ability of vassals in large realms to launch prepared invasions. I've grabbed Asturias that way and Scotland doesn't look far behind, and it's making building a large empire a bit too easy.
I'll definitely consider it. I don't believe the AI uses it though except for the scripted invasions, no?

Any plans to add the newly added Cognatic and Cognatic-Agnatic successions, unless you already did? I didn't see it in the recent patch that you released, so decided to ask here.

Hi there. Thanks for the great mod. I played a game as the Mongols starting 1220 and am having great fun stomping those tiny armies with my huge one.

A couple of questions:
1. In the opening invasion, I occupied all territories in the Sultanate of Persia, and two other counties, one in de jure Khiva, the other in de jure Mesopotamia. When war ended, I owned those provinces too. Is this WAD? Shouldn't I have been given just the territories in Persia?

2. I remember reading in the changelog that the mongols don't need to hold the holy sites to reform Tengri. Is that right? Should I just wait for enough of my provinces to convert to Tengri before I reform it?

3. This is my first game starting at a date other than the earliest date. How long do I have before the other hordes show up? Also, does PB extend the end date?

And oh, I am using SWMH along with PB
1. That shouldn't be happening, no. Not sure why it's happening.
2. Nah, what that changelog entry meant was that if they take a reformed Tengri county, they'll often convert. They won't reform it themselves (unless they somehow end up with 4 holy sites and 750 piety)
3. Since you started with the Mongol Horde present, neither the Ilkhanate or the Golden Horde will how up. The Timurids will show up between 1360 and 1405.
PB does not extend the end date, but SWMH does extend it to 1492.

Meneth, have you considered making the "Is war possible?" & loan/marriage decisions cancel out everything else but their subdecisions, and the "dismiss" decision to reverse it so everything shows up again (maybe attaching an X icon to it)? This works quite well in the Elder Kings mod.
That would mean I'd have to mod every single vanilla decision, which I'm not gonna do.

And also, how about changing one of the words in:
"Show Loan Decisions"
"Toggle Marriage Decisions"
to match the other for the sake of tidiness and clarity?
