I am playing as a shia in the old gods start and Its considered a sunni heresy. Is that this mod? If so, that doesnt make any sense.

Also for reference I am also playing Arko and VIET
That's intended. The main thing is that they should have the "heretic" opinion of one another, since their relationship in history wasn't exactly cordial.

I forked your repo, Meneth. I forked it good. Now I'm gonna make a personal mod with the fork so that I can have raiding enabled for all religions. Why?

BECAUSE!

Is there a way to disable raiding for independent rulers of king tier or higher? Always seemed to me like a King raiding the neighbors would be tantamount to a declaration of war.

I don't see any change, I still routinely capture the defenders, their wives and children after most sieges. I get no event about them escaping and going into hiding, either raiding as Norse or during "normal" wars.

Something am I missing or not understanding?
You don't get events when they hide; they get a character modifier that says they're hiding in the countryside.
You should still get quite a few prisoners when you're in the same religious group as those you're sieging.
Not that crazy, it's part of waging private wars, and it would give counts something to do to gain money and prestige. Maybe it could be restricted to immediate neighbors under Autonomous or Low vassals?
Impossible; it's binary, either they can raid all the time, or they can never raid.

Ah ok, I am finding it very hard to convert my people from Sunni to shia... and I cannot replace my imam because it says I am not a muslim.
Converting from Sunni to Shia, and the other way around, is supposed to be quite hard. The religious differences persist to this day after all.
Not sure what you mean by not being able to replace your imam though?

Also its been 38 years and not a single province converted by me or my vassals who are all Shia.
Not being able to dismiss your imam appears to be a vanilla thing.
I'm definitely seeing provinces get converted in my test games.

Just and an issue where every army in the game is permanently hostile towards me, even though i am not at war.
Strangely though this bug occures in every previous savegame of that dynastie.

Any idea?
Could you provide the save perhaps? Just zip it up and upload it here or on MediaFire or similar.
Never seen or heard of a bug anything like it.

Ok I used cheats to kill my imam and replaced him, still stuck with being unable to dismiss the new one, I know you said it seems to be a vanilla issue but am I stuck with it no matter what on this save game?
It's not an issue as such; Paradox deliberately prevented Muslims from dismissing their imams. I'm guessing historically those appointments were for life.

Minor bug : When I accept the event invitation to participate to a tourney, I face off against the same opponent three times in a row. Shouldn't I face a different opponent each time?
Yeah, there's a lot of bugs with tournaments currently, as the code from the New Duel Engine has some issues. I'm off half a mind to just restore the vanilla tournaments until the New Duel Engine's tourneys work better.
Before you read this: This piece is meant as feedback.
This is my vision on the current faction system which seems not in scale with the rest of your awesome mod.

So here we go, Civil wars:

1: First of all not everyone gets imprisoned only the leader if I defeat a faction rebellion, is this WAD? Other mods cause you to arrest all of them when I win the civil war.
2: Secondly by now I own Italy, Sicily, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Armenia, Syria and de-jure Byzantium. I know that is alot and it should be unstable but the current situation seems extreme. I have formed all of the kingdom titles outside de-jure Byzantium to ease the pressure and frequency of the civil-wars. Because by now I have to imprison half of my vassals to have a decent peaceful realm, because even newly appointed ones have the tendency to join factions.
3: Even if I defeat them in 1 civil war they will soon join another one within 3-5 years.
4: De-jure vassals of Byzantium seem to form factions to abandon the law that prevents external inheritance. This seems very illogical for de-jure vassals, sure I can see other vassals doing this, but not de-jure vassals. Why would they abandon a law that blocks external realms inheriting pieces of the realm they consider as their own.

What I also do not understand is that some have the ambition to become King of Sicily. But why would they be angry with me about it. The King of Sicily is my vassal but I have no control whoever gets that title. They should form the faction within the Kingdom of Sicily factions not Empire level factions. Maybe this is vanilla but it seems very weird, as I have not come across it before.

Until now only 10% of the civil wars were aimed to dethrone me, which seems a bit low. The rest of the civil wars have the same goal over and over again:to lower the levies laws or to disable the emperor peace.
There should be a far bigger cooldown on those. And the biggest joke is that I mop the floor with these rebellions and it's more of a chore than it is dangerous.
I'm more of a fan to civil wars that are rare and unexpected. Civil wars that come at the right time when I'm at my weakest. Those that can really matter and tip the balance. Instead of yearly or every 2 years little civil wars.

One more thing: In the beginning I tended to fully defeat these civil wars by killing all the armies, but now I've found more or less an exploit (atleast a cheap solution in my eyes). I ignore everyone else, make the biggest stack I can without gaining attritions and go to the civil-war leader's current province location. Then I siege and defeat his army, 90% of the time the siege works and I capture him after only 1 siege. Civil war over in mere weeks, as I said it's more of a chore than a real civil war that presents a challenge.
1) They're supposed to end up imprisoned. With which factions is that not happening?
4) The thing is that their priority is that their succession law is respected. Banning external inheritance is putting restrictions on their Feudal rights. In the case of Byzantium though they shouldn't care, so I'll put a stop to it in that case when dejure.

As to the rest, I'll set the minimum requirement for launching faction wars higher (85% power rather than 75%), and make the AI slower to use the decision until it hits 110% power. That should help make faction wars a bit less frequent, and a bit stronger when they do happen.

You can even download whatever version and test it. Though do note that GitHub commits are more likely to be buggy than a regular release.

From latest update (as the Byzzies): I can declare Holy War against the Seljuk 'Khaganate' and other nearby Islamic states, and I can no longer marry my daughters to Muslim rulers as 'must not marry an infidel' has appeared, which I haven't seen since vanilla.
I haven't done anything to marriages as far as I know.
As long as there's Orthodox provinces within the target you get to bypass almost all holy war requirements, that's probably why.

Could you change the color of pagan faiths to more visible? Tengri is blue and Islam is green so you can easily tell which province believes in what. However Catholic, Norse and Slavic faiths are only few shades of gray away from each other. It would be easier to play if the Norse and Slav have some more visible colors.
Got any specific suggestions for colors?

Maybe cold blue (Scandinavia-like) for Norse and red for Slavic? Or black for one of them?
Blue for the Norse sounds good.
What about Slavic and Romuva? I don't think black really fits any religion.

BTW maybe make Zoroastrian red, orange or yellow (flames, lightness).
It's a very different green than Islam. Check out the latest commit yourself at the beta branch ;)

I see many changes in the beta thing, I like this new 'you on git' thing, makes it much easier to see WTF is going on. For those who don't quite know how git works, you can now easily make your own mod while staying up to date with the code base by using pull requests:

Remember that when you want to update your own repository using Meneth's repository (rather than merging changes into his repository) you want the HEAD (repo with changes to be applied) to be his repository and the BASE (repo to which changes will be applied) to be your repository. You then have to go to the pull request section of your repo to accept it.

If you've made changes you think belong in the main mod then you should submit a pull request with the HEAD as your repo, and the BASE set to PB-git. Pull requests only get applied when the repo owner says that they're ok with that fork getting merged in, so don't worry about screwing things up for Meneth.

You can also keep up to date on what Meneth is doing by creating a git account and hitting the WATCH button on him or his repo, or if you use an RSS reader by adding him to your feed: https://github.com/Meneth?tab=activity

Which, incidentally, was how I knew the mod was being updated. Way more convenient than checking the top of a thread every time.
Yeah, GitHub is pretty cool.

How I've set it up is pretty simple:
The master branch is always the same as the current regular release, like you could download from this thread. The beta branch on the other hand includes changes as I make them; whenever I finish making a change I commit it. This should usually be stable, but there's obviously a higher chance of bugs in the beta branch than in the master.

D&S is definitely not keeping track of ruler locations properly. Even if someone is leading troops in another war, I can usually capture him just by occupying his capital.
Looking at the code, that should quite literally be impossible. If you've got any saves where the issue can be replicated, please do send it.

Hi, i can play as often i d like, so sorry if this situation is already reported.(PB 3.2.8+VIET(no personnal corrections(patch 1.10 ,DLC only Republic and all portraits if thats matter)
As minor King of Sicilie i took my Uncle as gardian and try to keep it around 100 of opinion, a cousin decided to start a faction in favor of this uncle as king, he send a ultimatum.Of course i reject it.
Both revolt, but my rebel uncle keep the gardianship and education events fire during the war. Finally i capture him so in the Dungeaon he lose the gardian statue. Finally i win the war after the defeat of the Leader. (as usual)
(For the end of the story i realeased him after the war since the relation remains high and get him back as Guardian, he is still very loyal)
I don't know if something can be done to avoid those type of weird situation: (since i don't know how it works)
Maybe some event could fire after i refuse the ultimatum: The pretender gardian receive an event: A/ following the faction and instant win (he just put me in the dongeon easy)B/ following the faction leader but release me (Honnorable character) C/ Refuse the rebellion and stay loyal ( results a paradoxal war where rebels fight against the pretender they want to put in place/OR/ the war don't fire at all and maybe rightful emprisonement on the faction leader.)
Btw I play few hour yesterday that was a great fun thanks for this mod ;)
If the regent is in the faction, there are such events. They wouldn't make as much sense to apply to the guardian.

The situation was a bit weird, especially since the event was about the guest in the court, maybe a rebellion should automaticaly break the guardian contract with the liege .After all during this war my character was in stuation of a hostage of a foreign power, but without consequences in game.
It probably should, but it sounds more like a major vanilla issue, and not necessarily one that can be fixed well in PB; though it would perhaps be possible to have an even to sever the guardianship.
I'd recommend reporting it as a bug either way, as it should be fixed in the vanilla game regardless of whether I do anything about it.

Hey Meneth, about civil wars and wars in general, I wanted to share something that i noticed, and that is that retinues seem to put a massive imbalance to the game.
Basically the AI doesn't seem to take them into account, and I nearly sure the % linked to factions is only tied to liege levies. I think the requirements for revolts should be higher as to offset this, and perhaps retinues should be harder to get (higher base cost, need more manpower, etc...)
Also is the fact that I can draw manpower on vassals for my retinues harcoded or not? It doesn't really make to do so when you think about, and shifts further the balance towards lieges and blobbing.
As of 1.10, manpower has no actual effect on retinues.
You get 5 points of cap from each holding in your realm.
You get 50 points from each castle in your demesne.
You get 20 points from each level of military building in your demesne.
The final value is then multiplied by any retinue modifiers you've got; mainly the tech level in your capital (possibly the average in your demesne or realm; I'm not sure).

So a highly centralized vassal can often have a retinue equally large as his liege. While they scale with size, they don't do so linearly, so retinues actually help move the balance towards vassals not lieges.
