Dear Paradox-Team,

i have a Question about the production mechanics and also about the different modifiers of production losses by switching it.

1. Do you lose more efficiency by switching your factories from for example weapons to tanks?
-> Do you lose less if you switch from Weapons I to Weapons II?
Seems logic because the factories would have already Weaponbuilding Skills and Equipment.

2. How much do you lose by switching from for example Pz. II to Pz. II Ausf. A?
-> Do you lose less if you modify your units (Ships, Plans and/or Tanks) with less points for example only giving them a better Engine?
I think it should be, because less modification means less production changes for the factories.

3. How about changing your factories between Tanks and SPG/TD/SPAA of the same typ of base tank. For example Panzer III (Base Tanke) and Stug III (TD for Pz. III chassis) ?
I mind it should also lose less efficiency then switching from for example Panzer III to Panzer IV.

Keep it up. I wait patiently but also eagerly for the end result :).

Thanks in advance for you answer

If you switch to a completely new line (Infantry Weapons to Tanks) you will lose all of your efficiency bonuses. You will lose some (about 1/2 I think) of your bonus switching to a newer model (ARM1 to ARM2). You will lose less (~ 25%) switching to a new variant of the same model. I don't recall if switching to from a tank to a TD is closer to switching models or switching variants. i'm sure someone else will chime in with the exact numbers. i don't recall them off the top of my head.

From Wiki:
Production lines[edit]
Production is organized into production lines, each of which produces a single type of equipment at a time. Up to 15 factories may be assigned to a single production line.

Production Efficiency[edit]
Each Production Line has an efficiency value associated with it. The higher the efficiency, the faster the Production Line produces Equipment, up to a maximum value. Running the same Production Line continuously increases its Production Efficiency.

Changing a Production Line to a different type of Equipment reduces its efficiency depending on how drastic the change is. From least to most:

  • -25%?: Different variant of the same model (e.g. Panzer III Ausf. F -> Panzer III Ausf. G)
  • -50%: Different model of the same chassis (e.g. Panzer III -> StuG III)
  • -75%?: Different chassis of the same family (e.g. Panzer III -> Panzer IV)
Ships under production can be converted into another variant for increased production time depending on how large the change is and how far into production the ship is.

edit: so I guess, switching from Weapons-I to II is equal to -75% (different chassis same family-like)

Only 50% actually. You can see it when Daniel switches from Weapons 2 to Weapons 3 in the latest WWW - they talk about efficiency so he goes back to show the tooltip and it's 54% or so (time had ticked since the change hence it's not exactly 50%). His other production lines are on 100%.

It's possible one of his national focuses / researched abilities are affecting it but it looks like a 50% switch.

I don't think we've seen them switch production lines for anything else (other than wiping all efficiency for switching from planes/artillery to infantry equipment)

The wiki information is pretty much just a guess (way pre WWW) Im sure so if you know the correct values you should edit the wiki.

You lose more efficiency the less releated the old and new equipment are.
